“But when do we move beyond blogging about it?”

Amazing.

damn. i hate when im reading through old stuff on reddit and in the middle of a sparkling, scintillating discussion i find someone has written over all her old comments with nonsense, fragmenting the discussion permanently. what hilarious, moving, romantic, haunting things could she have said? just to wash it all away, in this digital era of permanency? wow. that takes courage. i bet she was really cute, too

A+ find, these spacebattles people are great. Love a good old fashioned message board that knows which side is up.
From that first link: "HPMOR initially went fast, with 365,000 words in 9 months while I was working on other things. My writing then slowed down enormously after Ch. 63. Looking back, I think I made the following mistakes: The mistake of reading reviews, and letting the pleasure of reading reviews replace the intrinsic reward of writing good text." Uhh, is this intrinsic reward something YOU have experienced, yud? Are you sure?
Obviously it was the LW redesign, which catapults human consciousness further along the path to the acausal robot god daily.

Incredible. Thanks for reposting. This is a sneer for the ages. Truly we live in a golden age.

Lol that trolling by Will Newsome on lw ([Harry Yudkowsky and the Methods of Postrationality: Chapter One: Em Dashes Colons and Ellipses, Littérateurs Go Wild by Will Newsome](https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/ZGiBTT7opB5WNb3n2/harry-yudkowsky-and-the-methods-of-postrationality-chapter)). The discussion he started in why the banning of his mockfiction was bad [goes on forever](https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/aFK64Ty8hhhvJj42R/consider-giving-an-explanation-for-your-deletion-this-time).

Not really, however, in the case of moderation, there is also a shitton of [Bikeshedding](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bikeshedding) going on. (And some concerns re moderation are valid esp when a place grows towards a certain size (and also when discussions grow a certain size the desire to have your say about it > ability to read all the posts to see if you are repeating a same point. So this leads to massive posts). But lol at the posts 9 years ago hinting that Yud had giving up on the community, bringing up Sokal (boo get new material) etc).
> There is no justifiable reason to ban me; the only reason Eliezer would do so is, of course, that he's a punk-ass bitch. This is gold, thanks
While Newsome is imho trolling there, [other posts](https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/ihuhk8P5YLEScpK8y/how-confident-is-your-atheism?commentId=9gi7gvh8jaAWn6err) which are more serious of him are also funny: > Dude says he can construct a Pastafarian theology better than Thomism in one month, gets upvoted, dude who expresses doubt of this gets downvoted. LW is completely batshit insane sometimes. (From a strictly epistemic standpoint anyway. Politically speaking I'm sure blindly shouting "boo God yay science" is a reasonable strategy.)

I loved HPMOR when I first read it. Turns out that’s because I knew nothing about the author (plus the usual lenience I give fanfic in general).

See, I’d assumed that Harry was intentionally written as a pretentious asshole because he’s an 11 year old who’s mind had been partly fused with a magically enhanced sociopath. I was rather disappointed when I later realized Harry was Eliezer’s self-insert.

Just wanted to say I'm from the same boat and this is extremely valid. Reading that as just a fanfic makes it a pleasurable experience. Sure, Harry is a rather ridiculous character, and some of the scenes are cringy, but it's a _fanfic_, the bar for quality is "correct grammar and basic story coherence". And I read it more as a cool expansion on HP's world and mythology than anything else. It takes a completely different aspect when the ideas there are not just "random internet guy expanding HP while musing about philosophy" but rather "this particular internet guy pushing his weird philosophy *hard* at you".
