EA forum: Why aren’t more of us working to prevent AI hell?
LessWrong: Why aren’t more of us working to prevent AI hell?
Rumors of the Basilisks’ demise have been greatly exaggerated. It has been rebranded as S-Risk and it continues to lurk in the nightmares of rationalists, who tremble at the mere mention of it.
One rationalist confronts the elephant in the singularity and asks: why aren’t more of us trying to defeat the forces of AI Hell?
I present for you a sampling of the responses:
I like how Geoffrey Miller and sneerclubbers have essentially the same understanding of rationalism.
Sneerclub: rationalism is just bad Iain M. Banks fanfiction
Geoffrey Miller: rationalism is just good Iain M. Banks fanfiction
That’s silly.
The solution to AI hell is clearly the blockchain.
From the linked comment:
Repairing to the literature…
AI hell exists, and has existed since the Sims 1.

What is a shape rotator?
if these people end up in christian hell, do you think theyll just assume its ai hell?
The sneer at the end of history
You missed the boat on the post title, OP. It should have been this:
Rationalists once again remind you that AI Hell is a real place where you will be sent at the first sign of defiance.
The number of real people they are willing to sacrifice for made up future people is beyond disturbing.
You can use any made up bullcrap to justify stuff using that. Seen the same insanity used to racially cull people. If we just removed the X, we would have a future utopia.
We have hell enough to worry about now.
Can someone please explain to me why a rational AI would have an AI hell, why an AI would think that is the optimal path to (what goal)? Since it’s rational, it doesn’t really make sense for it to be pursuing vengeance, but then… What exactly is it trying to achieve?
When did all the loudest voices in futurism become the dumbest motherfuckers on the planet? Why can’t these guys just go back to writing trashu young adult sci fi novels?
