according to the world's leading artificial ethicist, white supremacist terrorism nearly every week + concentration camps for migrants + totalitarian militarized colonialism = isn't so bad (https://i.redd.it/mrszrfn09vx21.png)

I’m sorry, imprisoned children are a “small-scale taunt” now?

I suppose we’ve got evidence that Yud literally doesn’t comprehend children, so it’s vagely understandable how he got to that sentence, but still… has he just not read anything about it at all?

Genocide is fine if it is only on a small scale.
Genocide is fine if it’s only on small people.
That depends, are they born yet?
if something is on a small scale, chances are very high it ain't genocide.
Genocide isn’t defined by the number of people killed.
no, but where do you see genocide at work?
I mean, not *just* imprisoning children. Imprisoning children with sufficiently low quality medical care [they sometimes die](https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/25/us/guatemalan-boy-dies-border-patrol.html). Killing innocent children to own the libs?
Yup. And making sure the survivors are likely to be psychologically crippled for life! Like I said, has he just not actually bothered to inform himself on the issue?
He derived the information from first principles like a good rationalist. Which is to say no.
You're not wrong but I wish you were.

You know, I think Yud’s right on this actually. He hasn’t suffered much inconvenience thanks to Trump. Does anything outside of what happens to Yud really matter?

The last Republican President invaded a foreign country, killing 100,000-200,000 people in the process. The resulting power vacuum probably triggered the rise of ISIS, which has killed as many as 500,000 people. He retired to painting on his ranch.

I can understand why Eliezier is surprised that the current President, who has an even worse moral character than the last Republican President, hasn’t caused as much damage.

I agree, but that sweet, sweet wartime-president love must be hard to pass up. So he may yet turn out to be worse.
When he was campaigning he said all sorts of horrifying stuff about how he wanted to kill the families of terrorists and steal all the oil from foreign countries, so I was worried there would be war crimes happening on a daily basis once he got elected. But surprisingly his foreign policy has been better than average for a GOP president. Still, I'd hardly describe what he's doing as just "small scale taunts to the other side." What sneerclub does is small scale taunts to the other side. What the Trump administration does is killing children. Not sure how he mixed that up.
> sneerclub does is small scale taunts to the other side. No, what sneerclub does is raw evil. Haven't you seen his tweets about us?

Clearly the solution to making AI behave ethically is to define ethics to ignore human suffering and dignity

I hope Yud lives to see his “Am I the bad guy?” moment.

White supremacist terrorism nearly every week?

No bad faith, I legitimately don’t know what you are talking about.

My guess was that they were forming the impression from a recent string of events that didn't necessarily hold up over longer periods of time. I went looking from March to now. Someone set fire to a mosque while people were inside on March 24th in California (no injuries), and on April 27th was the Poway synagogue shooting. The shooter claimed responsibility for the mosque arson. On March 26th a guy burned down a black church in Louisiana. Two more were burned down on April 2 and April 4, apparently by the same person. So that's five attacks that can reasonably be called white-supremacist in the U.S. over that time period, perpetrated by two people. OP might be integrating other international events into that perception, like the Christchurch mosque shootings on March 15th.
Please let's not give this administration new ideas...

lots of people expected a war with Iran or something other of a great scale. all in all Trump has caused much less suffering than GWB did in the same time span, I’d say.

Depends on whether you blame the Trump administration for not stopping the Saudi-caused famine in Yemen. If you do, Trump's body count might reach GWB's.
Here (.nl) there were a lot of crazy stories about what trump would and wouldn't do. One of them said nuclear war in 6 months. This was the only crazy prediction which didn't came true.
Sadly, it now turns out this war with Iran might still happen. \_c0unt\_zer0\_ jinxes the world or something ;).
