Wow... Who would have known people might change their mind on something if you give the worst possible example of it?

Her reaction’s not even warranted based on the general survey,
lmao
If only 19% of people’re strongly agreeing with a statement like
that, it means the remaining large majority all are implicitly
acknowledging that some cultures aren’t worth preserving, to whatever
degree and with whatever conditions the surveyed individually
consider.
true honestly. some cultures suck shit and i wouldn't shed a tear if they were gone.
conveniently, most of the first world cultures i find so distasteful are going to be wiped out by climate change in the next few centuries :\^)
I think there are elements of all cultures that are worth
respecting and celebrating, but that doesn’t mean they always outweigh
the harmful or toxic elements of those cultures.
Also, “preservation?” Maybe I’ve got my “white genocide baiting”
goggles on, but that reallllly sounds like fourteen
words.
Objection, fundies are very far from the worst possible culture.
There are cultures that are literally outlawed in some European
countries, for instance
It's also closer to a political faction or subculture, though one of the criticisms of this sort of relativism has been that the concept of culture is incoherent anyway.
This response pattern is really uninteresting. Most people probably
interpreted culture to mean “culture of a nation/ethnic group” in the
first question, because that’s usually how the word is used in these
kinds of contexts.
These people really studiously don’t understand subtext, and how
context can change the implied meanings of superficially similar
statements and questions do they?
Similar to how the WN types started saying ‘it’s ok to be white’ so
they could laugh at how SJWs could take offense at even the most
innocuous statement, ignoring the fact that it’s obvious to everyone
that the only reason someone would say it was that they were WN adjacent
and trying to laugh at SJWs.
Reminds me of this
(specifically the bit about the logo, which in hindsight probably needs
more context).
Look, Warren Ellis already described how the American
religious-fundamentalist-republican culture can be preserved. It
involves a zoo and consenting adults.
(There is a story arc in the transmetropolitan comic where the main
character goes to a reservation of an old culture (I think some Aztec
one) and the people who live in that culture reservation have the
memories edited, and their lifespan adjusted so they live like genuine
people in that time (so, people get beheaded, various diseases kill the
population etc), outside influences are also forbidden etc. It is
basically the living history
concept mixed with the Amish and taken to crazy conclusions (but not
totally wrong, it is the only way you can really ‘preserve’ a culture is
by making it impossible to introduce new elements)).
She used to be a cam girl who took lots of psychedelics and wrote really bizarre articles. She used to post on SSC, but the incels on there turned on her when they discovered she wrote an article called "Maximizing your Slut Impact" or something like that. As far as Rationalists go she's really not that bad.
She also used to be an 'analyst' at a blockchain based dating app startup. I guess it didn't work out, because most of the content on their website has been removed, but it was meetluna.com
oh dear god, this reeks of quantifirrhoeic rationalists
https://icobench.com/ico/meet-luna
> An incentive-aligned dating app
> Luna is designed to mitigate the underlying inequality in the attention economy of online dating. It addresses the two main deficiencies that can be observed in existing dating websites and apps which cause low user satisfaction, namely the imbalance in messaging traffic and the misalignment of incentives and rewards.
> Luna employs blockchain to normalize the attention distribution which streamlines interactions between Luna users and helps to avoid users wasting their own and each other’s time sending messages which will never be read, or reading messages which will never be replied to. This wasted effort and time can be reclaimed by incentivizing productive behaviors on behalf of both the senders and readers of dating messages.

the [white paper](https://web.archive.org/web/20171130070627/https://lunalabs.github.io/luna_whitepaper.pdf) (deleted from their site, but preserved in the Internet Archive) details their dreams of turning *machine learning* to the problem, and uh also there's a crypto shitcoin attached for unclear reasons ^(to get free money from idiots)
they got $12m for this shite
Hahaha oh me oh my, that first link about feeling uncomfortable having to use preferred pronouns and needing to express it is cute. Sweetie, I don't think you understand the workings of polite fictions nearly as well as you think you do. You can't write, "I fully respect the feelings of my NB friends" at the top, and then proceed to write an _entire_ blog post about how you don't like having to do it. If you don't like it, fine, whatever, but for the love of god just write about something else.
You can tell people about your inner struggles. But if some group of people is causing the struggle, and their feelings are at stake, it's better that they don't know about it. It'd be one thing if Aella was talking about this with a sympathetic, non-NB, non-trans friend in private, but I think it's shitty that Aella put this up on her blog, which is fairly popular, where her NB and trans friends might be able to read it. This is very much the kind of thing where people are happier not knowing what their friends really think, and they don't need to know.
>I don’t mind collective pretending. We do it a lot – pretend to care about the cashier’s day, or that the homeless guy doesn’t exist
Why am I not shocked that this terrible attitude towards the homeless is wrapped up in this
My culture is oppressing women and minorities.

Even Robin Hanson’s POLL:s are better than this.
Do you think all robot gods are deserving of respect, celebration, and preservation?
What about ACAUSAL robot gods?
