The curse of Richard Stallman strikes again.
E: for context, Stallman went on a rant about not congratulating
people who give birth before (somewhere in 2005+ I think), as giving
birth is not a great skill or something. Similar energy.
>You people just have no sense of humor. I thought the original message was pretty funny and made a few good points (if it didn't, nobody would have been offended).
That person who cut me off in traffic yesterday really had a good point, just like the kid who spawn-killed me 6 times in a row while denigrating my mother over the mic, and that guy who farted in the elevator
Thanks!
The 'Kabuki-West Replies' just goes to show how much nicer people were in the past, we lost so much of the good intellectual discourse after the 'the sort of people who interrupt any attempt at intellectual discussion with words like “rationalbro” or “mansplaining” or “well acktually” [logged on]'. (Yes, I'm still calling bullshit on [SA's article](https://slatestarcodex.com/2019/10/30/new-atheism-the-godlessness-that-failed/))
You can but you shouldnt. Esp as the lottery is a horrible institution which puts a tax on the stupid (the people who participate). You wouldnt congratulate lucky stupid people now would you? /s
>You wouldnt congratulate lucky stupid people now would you?
fwiw in poker, you absolutely want to support lucky stupid people. Then they stick around, and give away their money
I truly mean no offense but you kind of sound like an asshole.
How can you not mean offense by that? And what’s wrong with offense?
Are these people so addicted to civility and rationality that they think
you should return civility to beyond-the-pale expressions of callousness
and atavism?
>I’m curious if you will elaborate. What your parent commenter said about failing marriages is factual and is supported by statistics —- for decades.
>You saying that somebody _seems_ to be an asshole however, I see nothing factual about that statement.
facts beep boop
I swear I saw a thing in an etiquette guide or similar from a legit
source a long time ago about how you should in fact not congratulate
someone on their wedding.
In this case the reasoning tho was that ‘congrats’ implies that there
was some kind of victory involved and that’s not the kind of adversarial
thinking that you want going into a marriage. Instead you should use
something like ‘best wishes’.

I only congratulate my friends when they dedicate their lives to bringing me into existence.
I never congratulate my friends. Whenever anything good happens, I remind that it doesn’t matter because they’re going to die soon.
Yikes, so much for friends and family! What a dick. I’ve met these people, they really exist, and they are awful.
some pretty good responses in that thread, big oof
there is no way this guy has any actual friends

Anyway that’s stuck in my head ever since.
