“When I say that 80% of all therapists are incompetent, it’s because
I have a fundamental belief that all proportions are basically either
80% or zero.”
When I say that 80% of therapists are incompetent, it is more of a
general observation of the nature of the world rooted in the Pareto
Principle, Price’s Law, and the Peter Principle.
I love reifying presently existing social forms, in fact that’s all I
do all day, is reify presently existing social forms.
"Hey, it's really counter-intuitive how you can so frequently find this ratio turning up in social science, must mean that whenever I think about society I should cast it in terms of this ratio"
it's awesome how many of these "principles" have been made up and promulgated to justify this misanthropic, almost Randian belief system. Thinking about getting a career as a professional social form-reifier
oh yeah and also Pareto was a fascist
i'm just toiling away all day in the social form factory, reifying social forms , and you want to outsource my job to some 16-year old overseas who can do it for pennies on the dollar. you god damn neo liberal.
You have absolutely nothing to defend your argument with, whereas I
have the full force of the Pareto Principle, Megan’s Law, the Peter
Principle, Murphy’s Law, Boyle’s Law, Bloch’s Principle of Hope,
Stigler’s Law, Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, Greenspun’s tenth
rule, Godwin’s Law, Say’s Law, Newton’s third law, L’Hôpital’s Rule,
Coleslaw, and the Miranda Rule on my side
Utter quality. I love the inclusion of the all-important
Coleslaw.
The strongest support exists for CBT of anxiety disorders, somatoform
disorders, bulimia, anger control problems, and general stress. Eleven
studies compared response rates between CBT and other treatments or
control conditions. CBT showed higher response rates than the comparison
conditions in 7 of these reviews and only one review reported that CBT
had lower response rates than comparison treatments. In general, the
evidence-base of CBT is very strong.
The study he cited was a meta-analysis of the effectiveness of CBT in treating _depression._ Specifically depression, nothing else. So yea, this guy owns.
I recall long ago Scott mentioned a good portion of his time being a gatekeeper from stimulant abuse or something. I can imagine like other psychiatrists, he may require therapy as a prerequisite to being prescribe psychiatric drugs, if at least not to turn into a legal pusher / solve the real problem.
“Therapy is for gullible people, women,”
“When I say that 80% of all therapists are incompetent, it’s because I have a fundamental belief that all proportions are basically either 80% or zero.”

> mfw i see this
> googles “how effective is therapy”

The marketplace of ideas at work….
…pretty sure Scott approves of therapy in general, wonder what OP thinks of that
