"Frankly, whenever I see anti-homeless boulders or spikes I think, 'good'. We should not be going out of our way to make it comfortable to be homeless," the hacker writes. "I would know, I went to a pretty well regarded private high school in California." (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21900680#21901306)

“While some toil away everyday and lose it all, I bumbled my way into a career as a highly paid computer toucher by accident thanks to my pretty well regarded private high school”, the hacker manages to continue in the same breath.

"[Given my background, I know better than the experts when I say that the true barriers homeless people face are opioids, meth, severe alcohol abuse in that order](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20770061)"
Coke is not on that list as that just makes your javascript better. (The lack of empathy to people who simply have an addiction or a few mental health problems is really depressing. And the lack of understanding it isn't a drugs -> homeless with no future, or homeless with no future -> drugs issue but a deeply interlinked problem is another really annoying thing).
All those words and yet no evidence this OP could make it from homelessness to his current state without a head start from daddy’s private school money. I can’t wait for it to be a status symbol for these kinds of people to attempt to “prove” they can adhere to their bootstraps philosophies so they either develop empathy in the process or just die.
