I wonder how much confusion the sequence of letters Pr(encounter|race) would cause them. Maybe the issues it brings up would just go right over their heads.
I mean I don't see how she is wrong. There are some studies that argue blacks are relatively less likely to be shot dead by police. The other oppression, less so. And it's not like socialists haven't been making these sorts of arguments for *years*
you might not be able to see how she is wrong, but fortunately for me I can.
there are some studies that argue esp is real
and it's also not like socialists haven't been making wrong arguments ever for years
“There seems to be little or no racial bias in arrests for serious
violent crime, police shootings in most jurisdictions, prosecutions, or
convictions”
Thing that always confuses me about this argument is that even if
there weren’t a racial disparity (which, to be clear, there very
obviously is), police brutality in the US is still far higher than in
other developed countries. It’s as though white Americans are happy to
accept that since solving it would also benefit black people.
> It's as though white Americans are happy to accept that since solving it would also benefit black people.
Wait till you hear why the Americans don't have social security...
I dont have the stats, but IIRC police brutality isnt THAT much worse in the US, its that, just like with general criminality, its that in the US police brutality is much more likely to end with the police flat out murdering you.
The poster were clearly states they police brutality is a problem; they just think it’s a brutality problem, not a racial one.
> I'm concerned that a more important discussion around police brutality and training is being coopted by a statistically unsupported narrative around racism.
Not saying I agree with them, just don’t want misrepresent their point.
Wow, who could have guessed what the position of The Heterodoxy TM
would be?
Steven Pinker, I think that police brutality is on the rise! Can you
please tell me your opinion, since I have no idea what it will be??
Geoffrey Miller, I believe people are protesting out of an earnest
desire to curb violence against the black community… do you think there
might… be some other motivation their behavior? And if so, what could it
be???
Bret Weinstein, I think that the black community is protesting
against an oppressive regime. Could you please tell me if you have an
interpretation that cleverly and surprisingly turns this dynamic on it’s
head????
Remember when nerds dressed like anime characters and did the Naruto run through university hallways when they craved attention?
That one (bad) study they love to cite but it’s B A Y E S I A N so….

Yeah when you adjust for the lasting impacts of structural racism, there is almost no racism in law enforcement. Funny how that works.
While cops are shooting journalists, and people who are on their own porch, this is the rationalist take I would expect yes.
let me project my life story as a christian woman to america’s treatment of black ppl at large
I’m going to follow this account to learn How to Win Friends and Influence People.

I’m waiting in suspense…
Wait…Is this the race science cam-girl waifu? Who knew that would ever be a thing.
Yeah, even before opening the link I knew it was the Asker of Questions™ at work.
