I really don’t agree with his (or the longtermists) account of utilitarianism; I think they’re actually lousy utilitarians. It’s honestly kind of fascinating that those fools response to the mere addition paradox was, “No, that’s good actually.” One wonders if they’re for banning abortion and birth control.

Do the longtermists like Bostrom and the rationalists ever directly address [the repugnant conclusion](https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/repugnant-conclusion/) problem?
I believe they accept the repugnant conclusion, but I'm not sure. Regardless, there are a variety of utilitarian approaches that get around the issue, to varying degrees of success. Basically no one just says, "Yeah, I agree with it," and only a very simplistic model of utilitarianism uncritically accepts it.
Not that I know of. But [Torture vs Dust Specks](https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/3wYTFWY3LKQCnAptN/torture-vs-dust-specks) leads pretty directly to it.

Not really a sneer, and I have not read it yet, but this seems like an interesting take against some of the weird EA/MIRI stances. Which I thought we might put some more eyeballs towards.

Ugh, is it suppose to be this painful to be convinced that transhumanism is silly, philosophically flawed and contributes to the likelihood of human extinction. I just wanna be an immortal cyborg wizard :(

really interesting read, thanks
