The way we treat children today is actually worse than 19th century slavery, because unlike school, slavery wasn't a dead-weight loss. At least someone benefited from the labor the slaves were forced to do. (https://www.reddit.com/r/TheMotte/comments/ruvu1k/culture_war_roundup_for_the_week_of_january_03/hrtl011/)

It’s gotta be possible to have a worse opinion than this, but nothing is coming to mind.

I believe the proper term is "realist" /s
Absolutely!

Bah, I came here to sneer at likes of EW, Roko, Scott and Scott. Not some comment that probably has less than five upvotes by some anonymous dufus I’ve never heard of.

Nutpicking the CW thread is, I donno, the moral equivalent of switching to cooking wine after you’ve ran out of booze.

You are not wrong but to be fair, when you encounter an opinion this preposterously wrong you at least gotta mention it. If you are a fan of a sport you tune in to watch the most elite leagues playing, not the junior highschoolers... but every now and then it's still fun to watch some kid making a one in a million shot and blowing everyone's mind. This comment is the "slingshot buzzer beater winning shot from 85 feet away" of opinions. Remarkable stuff.

Saile, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Rationalists: Reversing the Flynn effect, one post at a time

“Forcing” kids to go to school is a great benefited not only for the child, but all people around them, and all of society. It’s a greater benefit from labor of slaves because in the longer run each child will produce a higher quality and a higher quantity.

Also what the heck is this sub and why did it pop up for me? Am I missing a joke here? Or is this just the dumbest thing I’ve read today.

This is a sub for making fun of bad opinions from rationalists. While r/TheMotte is not strictly rationalist, it did start as a spinoff of the culture war thread on r/slatestarcodex , so it is often considered on-topic here.
Oh okay, thanks for explaining. So I am missing the joke. Ha ha. I tried reading the description, but that left me more confused.
I think the description is a quote from something Eliezer Yudkowsky (a rationalist leader) said about the sort of people here. Not sure if he was referencing this sub or if this sub was named based on it, that was before my time. There's a whole soap opera of internet drama here.
I believe he was referencing a Harry Potter fanfic forum that was critiquing his story.
Ohhhhh, that makes a lot of sense. darklordpotter.net?

How many levels of “education is all about signalling” are you on?

You are like a little baby. Watch this:

I have no idea why this post showed up in my news feed since I am not subscribed to this sub. But I can sympathize with the title statement, even though I don’t agree with it. Because I remember being a child in school and learning about civil rights. I remember being angry, frustrated, and sad when I realized that, as a child younger than 18 years of age, I had zero civil rights. Adults ruled my entire world.

Iirc you can turn off nin feed suggestions somewhere. Prob best to do so.
> I learned to be mad about civil rights because I didn't have any It sounds like your school did a poor job of teaching about the facts and functions of civil rights

Hey pal, you just blow in from stupid-town?
