New day, new quest of unhinged rationality, horseshoe theory and false equivalence. Just asking questions? (https://i.imgur.com/UvDjJqe.jpg)

This dumbass could find both sides of a Klein bottle

If you dislike this tweet, you’re going to hate this thing called the New York Times.

How did you read my mind???

‘i think this for no real reason despite knowing I might be committing a fallacy’

also, isn’t it a bit weird to ask other people to prove/disprove your own dumb ideas? this is so vague that I have no idea how I would even start

like, my assumption would be that she has at least some concrete ways in which she thinks ‘woke’ people and the alt right are comparable, so why not go investigate those herself?

i guess maybe she doesn’t, and it’s purely vibes-based, which is why she put out this tweet to begin with

> isn't it a bit weird to ask other people to prove/disprove your own dumb ideas? this is so vague that I have no idea how I would even start Not really, I think, it’s a perfectly ordinary - albeit vague - in terms of pure form rather than content it’s a question you might ponder with friends or at a business meeting, and there’s nothing wrong with being vague, especially to begin with. In fact if I were to stereotype Aella - and I will - I’d be inclined to say she’s almost explicitly asking the question in the tradition of collaborative thinking games of which the rationalist movement is a big fan, and - as formalised games no less - these go back to all sorts of storied places like NASA strategy manuals and Pascal: sometimes the vagueness is the point, trying to nail down what you mean in a collaborative way invites criticism and development of the initial question in a different way to working on your own. The downside of all of this is of course that there’s all sorts of ways such a process goes wrong, gets poorly hashed out in one particular instance, gets taken over by a techno-cult that makes you take mind-altering substances to read Harry Potter fanfic etc. But the downsides aren’t inherent to the idea.
you're not wrong I suppose I was kind of doing it myself, here, and you've given a more thoughtful response than my initial comment
This is literally the same logic as when people set out to "prove" stuff about the Fermi paradox by assuming that if they don't know the answer between two options they're equally likely (I forget the source that did that, but there was a rationalist-adjacent article that tried to use this logic to somehow compute the odds of intelligent life springing up on a planet). They claimed it was some sort of Bayesian thing, I don't know, all the buzzwords start running together for me and my mind disengages.

me, a fool, normie, 99 iq: well you could read a reputable book from a subject matter expert

a scott, genius, 3432478539127892 iq: you fucking fool, you dunce, you absolute rube

“In my mind”? Mon ami this is not a new idea. This will not appear on your followers’ feeds as if birthed fully formed of The Viid.

Why is this person sneered at so much on here? Genuinely curious. Obviously the opinion is stupid, but she seems to play at being their fantasy girl, and if that’s the hussle it’s at least better than the rats with no self-awareness.

>Why is this person sneered at so much on here? I am not an Aella poster, but I guess it's *exactly* because she plays at being their fantasy girls, and so you can have an unholy amount of sm/t (sneerworthy material per tweet). Like, there is so beating around the bush, no one thousand words of ass-covering before the juice begins to flow, no intended ambiguity, just a honest and unadultared sample of the Rationalist mind (or at least, of somebody trying to appeal to it).
because she plays rationalist fantasy girl *and* is consistently neoreactionary in her opinions and behaviour
>is consistently neoreactionary in her opinions and behaviour Yeah, that's why I sead was an honest and unadulterated sample lol. She does not even pretend to be "decoupling" or JAQing, she goes straight for the fash talking points of the community.
Sm/t lol!
She's the epitome of contradictions. Says she escaped a white Christian nationalist cult, but still harbours rather typical racist exclusionary ideas about people who aren't of her ilk. Probably has a white crypto tech bro as her patron.
[deleted]
Wait... what's dehumanising about it? Why is sex work so dehumanising/demeaning? She herself seems proud of it.
[deleted]
You're the mod and that's okay, but respectfully, your environment and peers do influence your opinions to a huge extent. And they can be shit or good, depending on the way you look at it. Text doesn't convey intentions in a lucid manner, but you're thinking I'm infantilizing her in a misogynist manner because of her occupation as a female sex worker, which is hardly the case here. If she was in tech and her boss was a white crypto lolbertian techbro, more often than not she would share the worldviews of her boss. Lack of good people to look up to does influence our shit opinions and behaviour sometimes. For an analogy, a POC kid growing up in an underfunded overpoliced neighbourhood would fall in the same cycle of crime more often than not. Exceptions are not the norm. Similarly, casteism in my country is a result of casteist parenting; casteist kids become casteists not by their own volition, but their upbringing and environment. That continues into adulthood: college then jobs. Obviously, kids can become anti-caste when they grow up, but that's sort of an exception. If I rephrased my wording, it would've felt non-offensive I guess.

Lol I always find it so amusing when people extend an olive branch and it gets stomped away. You are definitely the pathetic individual in this discussion.
And in this discussion, you are?
Me: looks at this tweet Me: looks at your question Me: looks back at this tweet Sorry what’s the mystery? She literally put in the tweet that she took an absurd and baseless position, with no real evidence, and has no idea if it has anything to it, and then just was like “how should I assess if it is any good”? The baseline answer: “look at the positions themselves, the arguments for them, and evidence for them, and see if they have any merit” is nowhere to be found, she is just going on straight fucking vibes. I rate this: *in the clear, for a good sneer*
Literally more compelling would be if you wanted to say that she isn’t really a rationalist or whatever and so shouldn’t be featured in this sub
[deleted]
I mean, I can assess how compelling a comment is all the live long day
> Why is this person sneered at so much on here? Genuinely curious. Do you mean "so often"? I don't remember when the last Aella post I saw was but feels like over a month. And even then, probably because she produces easy-sneering content. Bad takes with less jargon? (tbc, I wouldn't mind if this person was never linked again.)
I'm pretty new to this sub so take this with a grain of salt, but it feels like I've seen Aella's posts linked about as often as Yudkowsky's, which seems disproportionate to her actual importance to the community (except as some sort of not-like-other-girls nerd magnet).
I’m with /u/shitgenstein that it’s basically a low-effort thing I would have deleted it already and left a snarky sign off but my head wasn’t in that space - I do that all the time with her posts, you’d be amazed at the ratio of Aella content that gets through to Aella content you never see on here Also a non-zero amount of people here definitely are just hot for her
>Also a non-zero amount of people here definitely are just hot for her Do you want to borrow my \*bonk\* stick?
I'm very old to this sub and I only know about this person from this sub and have no grasp of her relative place in the community that I have never been a part. Again, I think it may just be a 'low-hanging fruit' sort of deal. > (except as some sort of not-like-other-girls nerd magnet). I mean, that probably accounts for *some* of the disproportionate attention in general, no? I think she posts nudes on Reddit?
>I mean, that probably accounts for > >some > > of the disproportionate attention in general, no? I think she posts nudes on Reddit? If only that! She's an escort, sells porn and is relentlessly self-promoting on twitter (in a deft way). However, she is most notable for being impressively normal for someone who has done a truly incredible amount of acid. Typically, it leads to people developing very kooky, esoteric ideas. She claims that during her camgirl days she kept doing in serious doses day after day, for nine months. I find her creepy, which is very odd for me. The only other person who is equally creepy to me is Richard Hanania.
[deleted]
She isn't ,actually. Her IRL clients are not rationalists, and her porn is also probably not bought mainly by rationalists. >\>whatever the vast majority of rationalists are doing students, software developers, engineers, etc.. what's dishonest about that ?
The last thing I recall in which she appeared and that wasn't low-hanging fruit was the [Leverage](https://www.reddit.com/r/SneerClub/comments/q7m8rg/firsthand_account_of_the_leverage_cult/)/[MIRI/CFAR](https://www.reddit.com/r/SneerClub/comments/qa3hn6/former_miri_employee_exposes_the_inner_workings/) business.
There was a brief period where she was linked here roughly every other day and it's not the first time this question gets asked, but now that you mention it, it has been a while since. But yeah, low-hanging fruit.
because she says dumb things all the time

Dont think this is that sneerworthy apart from the initial setup ‘alt-right is same as woke’ (which betrays a childlike understanding of politics, but we all have gaps in our knowledge where we don’t understand stuff more than a basic level).

At least she is open to being wrong and asking people for help figuring stuff out more.

I have doubts she will get to the ‘wow you can’t compare these groups at all, they differs on so many factors except for the few I was judging them on’ conclusion however. (Perhaps she should read some AR Moxon to get into the right mindset).

It is weirdly worded however. (Otoh the subs more recent focus on Aella is also a bit weird (esp when compared to Julia Galef)).

Hmm, what has Galef been tweeting lately? A retweet of Steven Pinker ... a retweet of a complaint that IRBs "are out of control" (from someone who seems not to know the adage that behind every warning is a story) ... "It's tricky, but @slatestarcodex has a characteristically great take" ... Oooh, sharing a review of her book in *Quillette* ... On the whole, it's more *vaguely cringe* than the low-hanging fruit that others' remarks provide.
No idea what she has been doing, just think she would be a more reasonable Rationalist target than just a random tweeter if you catch my drift. She actually does Rationalist things and not vaguely asks questions and is often weirdly neoreactionary/etc. Not that my opinion on these things really matters, just the focus on the insignificant sw/drug user here at times makes me uncomfortable.
Aella was quoted in the New Republic or the Atlantic, one of those, last week. She's not that insignificant.
Well that sucks. Thanks for correcting me.

[Mildred already slimed all over that](https://youtu.be/m0ZDHgD9084)
That was really really dumb and shit, even by the standards of lib left YouTube, that was really dumb and shit.
'Lib left' lol you must be very lost. And mad.
In fact that was the shittiest dumb thing I have seen this year and I follow a lot of people on twitter and I sort by new on Reddit and I have seen some truly dumb and shitty stuff so far. But that won.
[deleted]
I never said it was funny, I left it here because the original post was talking about the horseshoe between the woke and the alt right and other people have noticed. It's actually v the right wing/anti woke version of clapter, when to comedian scores unfunny political brownie with the audience.
Wow, you managed to notice that two different boring and racist people both said things that are boring and racist.
Flair up, bitch!
