She \*so close\* to noticing the ways rationalism follows the patterns of Christianity. They even have their own scandals about pontiffs misusing charitable money to buy fancy buildings!

it was said for a few years after 9/11, by Gavin McInnes and the logical end of this "joke" was the foundation of the proud boys, an "American far-right, neo-fascist, white nationalist, and exclusively male organization that promotes and engages in political violence" and designated as a terrorist group in Canada and New Zealand. it's corrupting punk rock to adequate it to that kind of "conservatism".
It comes from the idea that punk rock is entirely reactive and against the mainstream zeitgeist and has no ideas of its own. While this is true for a subset of 'im going to shock my parents' punk rockers, like johnny rotten, for massive other groups of punks this isnt true. (And in fact as neonazis have never been mainstream this whole idea is countered by the fact that most of the punk rockers fight neonazi punk rockers making it clear the nazi punks should fuck off).
