Though a lot of the (rationalist) people this applies to are, in fact, nRX even if they don’t believe themselves to be.

The Right Reverend Arson, of course, is correct about this.

Not at all sure what this post is even about and why ot would ever be flagged NSFW

we use NSFW for "serious" posts in addition to the usual purpose
Is it either one? As noted I can't even figure out what's under discussion here...

Nah, that’s one of the most common sneers here: that all the Bayesian and priors bullshit is just made up to put a veneer of rationalism on top of pre existing preferences and impulses. There’s nothing reactionary about that critique.
the definition of Rationalists is not "those who are rational" but "those who rationalize"
That’s pretty great, I’m using that
bon mot to describe their attempt at corrupting the definition of the word "rationalism"
made me think of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_of_Reason , wonder if they addressed this historical footnote.
That reminds me of the cult of the atheist emperor in 40k.
**[Temple of Reason](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_of_Reason)** >A Temple of Reason (French: Temple de la Raison) was, during the French Revolution, a temple for a new belief system created to replace Christianity: the Cult of Reason, which was based on the ideals of reason, virtue, and liberty. This "religion" was supposed to be universal and to spread the ideas of the revolution, summarized in its "Liberté, égalité, fraternité" motto, which was also inscribed on the Temples. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/SneerClub/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

> NRx is all about dismissing enlightenment values like objective truth Is it, though? They idealize a corporate, authoritarian government and are against democracy and egalitarianism, sure, but those aren't the only Enlightenment values; enlightened despotism was *also* a product of the Enlightenment, as was colonialism. I also don't think they actually reject the rationalistic, scientific values associated with the Enlightenment. Instead, not unlike certain other authoritarian movements I could name, their dedication to those values manifests in the creation of a totalitarian centralizing state apparatus. There's a tendency among certain people on the center, center-left, and even the left to idealize the Enlightenment and act as if all our modern social ills descend from superstition or irrationality or Romanticism; I think this is largely a result of fundamentalist Christianity in the USA and exaggerations of the role mysticism played in the formation of Nazism. This ignores the fact that the Enlightenment actually included some really horrific developments and ideological positions (and Romanticism included some pretty good ones); the Dark Enlightenment from what I've seen is a manifestation of the evils inside the Enlightenment rather than any grand betrayal of its values.
NRx people don’t dismiss objective truth, far from it, they claim all sorts of nonsense as “objective biological truth” when it suits them
>but i guess that would be nuance which is rational Out of all things I associate nuance with, it's not rationalism
Yeah but it isnt about rationalism, it is a remark on how we in sneerclub are so anti Rationalists that we have developed bizzaro rationalism where we say bye when we mean hello, because the rationalists say hello when they mean hello. Check their post history 33% (N=3 lol ;) ) is redscare so you can't expect much. Also 33% just sexism.
