Motorcycles. Just got into motorcycles after a decade of scooters… Oh god, the safety gear, the consumables, the accessories… It never ends.
If only the intense interest even lasted over 2 years.
(Tea, historical flutes, opera, treasure hunting/metal detecting, BJDs, woodwind maintenance & repair, Meshtastic/Meshcore/Reticulum radio, 3D printing/modeling/CNC)
Cycling, sailing, kayaking, archery, backpacking, climbing - lots of gear needed! Sigh
High end PCVR my beloved.
Or WH4K.
High endPCVRThis, also 4K 120Hz gaming with ray tracing.
Also DJ gear,
Also home theater & OLED TVs,
Also modified sports cars,
and I’m an audiophile.I can’t afford any of this shit, but it’s what I like.
Aquariums ! A perfect money and time sink. With the added advantage of hard to discard/sell elements that nobody wants after that. A real treat !
I just started film photography. It costs about $1 per photo, more for better film, and I’m on track to shoot a roll every 3 days.
Do you develop your own film? If youre just starting out you could probably get an old entry level dslr and a stock lense pretty cheap to teach yourself what all the settings do on a film camera
I picked up a Nikon FM2 with 50mm lens recently. I thought about shooting black and white, but I love color too much. I’m currently shooting Cinestill 800t. Next up is Kodak Gold 200, then maybe I’ll try Porta 400. Kinda just exploring film stocks to see what I like. Seems most of the cost comes from developing, so I’m not too stressed about the higher end film. I might still try black and white, but mostly to learn how developing the film + scanning works. If all goes well, I might get into medium format in a few years.
I’m very fortunate to have a good job. These types of purchases feel like I’m investing in learning the art of film. But I’ll keep shooting digital too to balance the budget.
Edit: I haven’t looked up with film stocks cost more to develop, so I may regret the more expansive film
Enjoy yourself! I’ve never wanted to spend the coin to develop film, but I do have a cheap 35mm point and shoot, it’s nice but I’d still rather be able to shoot 2500 photos in an afternoon haha
That’s the other thing is going through 2500 photos stresses me out lol. I’m excited to embrace the creative constraint. Btw, I’d love to see a photo you’ve taken if you’re willing to share!
Maybe a local university will let you use their dark room on the cheap? :D
That’s not a bad idea. I’m guessing they are more equipped to develop color film. Honestly I’d been be open to taking a college class on film if that class exists near me. I think education is worth investing in.
For me that would be yoyos, kendamas, Lego, 3D printing, and comic books. I feel seen.
Oh Gunpla, how I yearn to enjoy you. One day.

I don’t even have the storage space for it all!
Same.
Wish it was that easy… the heart wants what it wants. Just can’t “get into things” like that. I have to like it.
Ugh this and it’s exhausting!
My mind: let’s use Linux to cut down telemetry and get some control over the distractions on my pc. (That’s a couple of weeks research rabbit hole, which could have been just one DL and install)
Now let’s do the phone (still going on)
Let’s host an rpg (jup, all the effort)
Let’s write an album…
For once I’d like my mind to go “hey I love going for a walk or doing yoga”.
