Direct war with Russia would be far worse for the German population. It is much cheaper to fight a proxy war via Ukraine and try to avoid war themselves.
Also, they are ramping up their own defense capabilities so a lot of this money will presumably flow back to German companies, and therefore German jobs.
In my simple logic is some one who aids someone fighting against me, also my enemy. Fighting by proxy is still fighting. Though I don’t know why we even should.
And yeah the cynicism of cash flowing back wasn’t lost on me…
