Sumo has plenty of commercialism, it’s just a different kind. It’s a sport with large issues around gambling and alcohol for example, while being heavily sponsored by gambling and alcohol companies. I also believe that all divisions are pro, the top two divisions are just salaried pros. So all wrestlers win cash prizes when victorious, but the top two divisions also get a salary whether they win or lose. At least that’s how I’ve had it explained to me.

Thanks! Elevated my mood instantly to be reminded that it’s still possible to behave as humans online.

Sorry for the attitude, looks like I was in a shitty mood. Apologies.

The last I heard, we’ve now murdered 10 boatsful of Venezuelans. I don’t even know if that number is accurate because I’ve been too busy to really catch up on all of our current atrocities. The last I’d heard before that number was 3.
You could take a look at the article you’re commenting on in order to catch up: “If authorized, the planned missions would represent a significant escalation in Trump’s ongoing series of attacks against he has claimed to be drug cartel operations, which include at least 15 strikes against alleged drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean and western Pacific Ocean.”
Up to 15 strikes it looks like.

It’s not like people were asked, “Do you favor ordinary people having a real voice in their workplaces, neighborhoods, and society? Do you favor a higher minimum wage, universal health care (Medicare for All), strengthening labor unions, and increasing the power of working people while weakening the power of corporations?”
Those are not socialist policies, I’d say they’re more social democratic than socialist.

Ok, then you probably shouldn’t be running for such a public office either. How is the ‘average’ American being unaware an acceptable excuse? Don’t you think that we should expect more from politicians in high office than from the average Joe? This thinking is what gave the US leaders like Trump and W. “I’d like to have a beer with that guy, so I’ll vote for him” hasn’t exactly delivered sensible leadership…
Also, the man first enlisted in the Marines in 2003, and his last military deployment was 15 years later in 2018 to Afghanistan with the mercenary outfit Blackwater. He was a Marine in Fallujah and Ramadi during the height of the atrocities committed by US military personnel. That’s 15 years of killing brown people before he concluded that perhaps that wasn’t a good choice. Why would you trust a person with judgment this bad deep into his thirties with this kind of power? Even removing the tattoo from the equation, there are plenty of red flags with this man. But hey, I guess we need more Fettermans in power, just ignore the red flags because he said a couple of sentences you agree with.

The problem you’re describing sounds more like an issue with space allocation. You mention that motorists are only an issue when you cross the street. Have you ever thought about the ratio of the space allocated to lanes for cars versus the space allocated to everyone else? It sounds like city planners over the years have allocated a far too large a portion of public space to cars, forcing pedestrians and scooters, among others, to compete over what’s left.
I work as a city planner, and experience this constantly. The space allocated to cars makes everyone else fight and compete over the small share that’s left, and none asks why we aren’t all demanding that space be reallocated from cars to other modes of transport instead of cramming everybody in the pedestrian pathways.
If there was space available in a separated bike lane, most scooters would likely prefer riding there instead of on the pavement. But if they have to share the space with 2 ton steel projectiles, then most take their chances with the pedestrians. It’s all a question of what a municipality chooses to prioritize when it comes to allocating public space.

My guess is The pink mosque in Shiraz, Iran. It’s famous for the use of colors. If visited at the right time of day, the sunlight will filter through colored glass windows to create a kaleidoscope of colors. Check the photos in the wiki article, there are plenty of photos of the inside of you search around.
If you like this kind of architecture, you should absolutely look into Naqsh-e-Jahan square in Isfahan, Iran. It’s an unreal public space that transports you to a different time, truly spectacular and unique architecture.

Solitary confinement is torture. That guy just felt it to be less torturous than being with the general population. Which is quite a commentary on the horrors of the prison environment when you think about it.

You maybe can record as an individual, but you can’t put up a camera that records while you’re not there.

So you drive over the permitted speed limit put in place to protect pedestrians on “an empty street”. And you’re complaining about getting multiple warnings before getting fined for ignoring the safe speed limit? You ‘accidentally’ went over the speed limit multiple times on the same street, but the rules shouldn’t apply to you I guess, your highness.

I assume OP meant fascism that’s directed internally towards the home population. Like Orwell wrote, the way of life of the population at home is predicated on the continued fascist exploitation of non white people abroad.
A joke, it indicates a joke made by a stand up. You know, comedy. It’s not a confession of deeply held beliefs, jfc.

Really? I wonder who Gazans and people from the west bank voted for in the last Israeli elections. Right, they’re under the control of Israeli occupation but can’t vote in the democracy, all millions of them. But you know, it’s also the only country in the world that explicitly states that it’s the country of all Jews in the world and not its citizens’. Remarkably democratic in fact, so democratic that it redefines democracy as ethno-supremacy.

Mandelson was sacked because of the release of the birthday book by Epstein’s estate, not by the government. The government did a “release” before that, but it looks like just a couple per cent was anything new. When people call for info to be released, they’re probably most likely asking the government that’s supposedly working for the people, not the paedo king’s estate.
The assumption is perhaps that the estate has zero interest in releasing stuff damaging to themselves, while the government theoretically should be different.
Theoretically is the operative word here, at least for me. The government is staffed by the paedo king’s associates, and they are never releasing anything. So there’s never going to be anything released worth chewing and swallowing.
But it is entertaining to watch Trump not be in control of the narrative and squirm
A couple of weeks ago, they were replying “your mom did” when reporters asked who had suggested Budapest as a good city to meet Putin. They’re morons, and this is just going to be another moronic thing they did that no one remembers in a week. Absolutely nothing they say will ever be enough to fell them.
I always thought that Americans would react when their government would start to turn all of the tools and tactics they developed torturing brown people inwards towards the US population. However, I had not accounted for white America only considering white Americans to be real Americans. So as long as the ones suffering are non white Americans, it seems to be fine. Let’s see if that changes once the tactics start targeting white people as they inevitably will.
