33·2 days agoThat’ll be fun. If I know I’m going to die overseas, with my skin peeled off or bones shattered, or I can die at home with a few bullet holes, I know which one I’ll be choosing. Easy enough to make sure bullet holes magically appear in assholes, as well.
Luckily it’s all hypothetical for me. Too old, too sick, and too busy not even having a permanent address :/

2·3 days agomost of all people stopping at a red then deliberately running it because nobody else is coming.
Ah, shit, I feel called out. I feel that one’s defensible in certain circumstances. The stupid underground magnet sensors never seem to detect me, it’s nearly midnight with a traffic rate of 20 cars an hour, and I can sit at that intersection for 10 minutes without the light changing…
Even without those circumstances though, stopping at a red light, ensuring the way is clear, and then proceeding seems responsible enough.

2·3 days agoDailies, and other similar grinds, are one of the worst crimes against humanity in mmos. Surely we can move beyond the ‘take twenty hours to level up your character so you can progress’ idea that crystallized in jrpgs and now sits in the center of the late game experience like a giant aragog sucking your enjoyment. Let me just log in and raid, gorramit!

1·3 days agoOkay, look, I loved my grandparents, but spending time with them at the end was horrifying and I really would have watched paint dry in preference.
Kids, dogs, and partner could also have some time off my hands by taking care of certain limited tasks. Cooking, cleaning, wiping ass… Don’t tell me you want to cook every breakfast, lunch, and dinner compared to playing a board game with the dog while the android dices your onions and peppers and the partner and kids take a nap on the ceiling.

2·3 days agoI’m halfway with you, and halfway just considering that people think it’s relevant to include a tl;dr in a barely three paragraph comment. The feeling with tl;dr for me is a summary similar to a closing paragraph, and if anyone thinks that one sentence (“Ai coding can help a lot in accelerating software development.”) is somehow worthy of being summarized as if the point was proven (“Ai can be very powerful in the right hands”)… well, it sounds like shit because it is shit. Maybe it’s ai, maybe it’s just a really rushed dude making a throwaway comment in the fediverse, and maybe it’s just a person who is confident enough in their mind that they forget they haven’t made an actually decent argument outside of their past, and concluding as if they brought that past argument forth here is eye-raising.
Considering he’s on his own instance… I’m going to bet the context is somewhere between throwaway comment and invoking past assertions without citing them.

10·3 days agoWhat kind of engineer? Because while the physical world, with all of its mechanical and civil and aerospace engineers, has its shit figured out with professional standards and very clearly defined responsibilities and duties, the world of social engineers, tire engineers, procurement engineers, supply chain engineers, sandwich engineers, project engineers, lead engineers, and yes, software engineers, definitely is a little too loose with any definition for me to care that these ceos were once ‘engineers.’
Contacts do prevent the burning. I never even noticed the difference until someone told me about it, but sure enough, I can distinctly remember never crying once I switched from glasses to contacts.
You mean up, right?

I’ve sometimes wondered if people read the replies (because I know there was ONE time that someone answered me), and when I get bored I just pull up the text message list and start in on a random topic. Maybe a volunteer will learn about why rabies vaccines aren’t a big deal, but are still super important, or why animal husbandry is a very vital industry for the government to invest in even though we need to transition to vegan lifestyles.

2·4 days agoThankfully, we’re currently reaching the offense side of the pendulum, where defenses haven’t caught up yet and made a stalemate. The $20,000 drones that are being used are going to overwhelm the $4,000,000 missiles used to stop them.
Perhaps america will get just enough of a kick in the teeth for our government to reel itself in and take care of our war criminals and profiteers… /cue_maniacal_laughter at that thought ever actually happening.

6·4 days agoWell, we had politicians doing covid parties, dumb christians doing retreats, fucking foolish rejects crying that they were told to stay home for two weeks because it was just so important that they can make the run to their local hardware store to pick up the 5 gallon bucket to fill with their carbonated and sugary beverages…
When people can override basic logic about avoiding contagion because it ‘owns the libs,’ then it’s definitely going to be overridden when it’s something that ‘means something’ in their life, such as a kid’s competitions.

News@lemmy.world•READ: Stunning FBI Doc Claims Trump Assaulted Teen Girl After She ‘Bit the Sh*t Out of’ His Penis
2·4 days agoHuh. That’s an interesting idea.

From my experience, there’s a weird sensor/processor mismatch. The light to go straight will turn green when I’m in the left turn lane (the default is the cross traffic has the green light unless someone is sitting on my road), but won’t ever trigger the left turn. I’ve gone across the road, u-turned, and then taken a right in order to go the original left… but sometimes I just run the red light to go left in the first place.
Humorously, the intersection is probably within eyesight of the local police agency, except for a giant office building blocking the view. I’ve never even seen a cop nearby.
