Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What christmas tradition do you uphold?English
11·6 days agoWe do the fun parts taken from Yule (trees/greenery/lights) and Saturnalia (feasting). I think at this point it’s more a celebration of managing to make it through another year than anything else.

Q: How did god create the world in only 7 days? A: There was no installed base
Oh, a * peek * at piefed. I thought it was going to be some doom and gloom about user count peaking. It’s actually just an introspective.

Oh so that’s what happened to Duke Nukem.

The MOMA has a lot of artist-created or inspired stuff in their gift shop, just in case you needed some N-dimensional placemats or something for your tablescape.

20·17 days agoI will watch a Joy of Painting episode anytime I come across one on PBS (they stream on YouTube but it’s more fun to find it “in the wild”)
They’re hovering over North America. Bert is clearly their US operative. They’re probably about to check in with Roberto down in Mexico after having just finished with Barthelemy in the Canada office.
This could just be an ordinary Tuesday evening on the E train in NYC.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•cheapest way to connect several SATA HDs via USB?English
3·30 days agoI have one of these. It’s usb 3.0 only which it sounds like is what you have anyway. It’s not part of my NAS, I just use it when I need to quickly look for something on an old drive, but it’s been pretty reliable for me for the last few years and was cheap, so I have no complaints.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•cheapest way to connect several SATA HDs via USB?English
3·30 days agoAh my mistake. As I’m sure you’ve found you can certainly get USB-SATA adapters. They’ll be $15-20 each, so you’d realistically be better off getting 2 2-drive enclosures since that would be about the same price but much cleaner. I’ve used Sabrent for this for a while and they’re fine. There are occasional usb disconnects so it’s not good for anything mission critical. And never do anything port-powered when connecting drives over usb, always use parts that get their own wall power.
