  • It seems you gave it a fighting chance! During my first playthrough, I went with the easier version of not needing food or water. There is a moment in there, when you have to go way down to get some resources, which can be tough if you’re not fully immersed.

I don’t want to send you back in there, cuz 15-30h gameplay is plenty enough to get to know the game, it just scratched my itch for wanting to discover a world so well (which I believe is what you crave), it’s hard to accept that it’s not for everyone. Hope you find something swell! Maybe that Detroit comes alive stuff? I never played, but that seems gta-like.

  • Have you played Subnautica yet?

What I took away from your writing is that you like the freeworld aspect, and Subnautica has plenty to fuck around with. It has a main story line, but the game is so good, you can kinda forget about it and just build your underwater palace. No stealibg cars or planes, but you can craft pretty amazing vehicles and ‘fly around’ underwater with them.

    I think you’d enjoy it.

  • Mint which has for whatever reason been constantly recommended as a go-to distro

I can bring my anecdote to the table:

I was able to mess up my initial ubuntu install so bad, that any time I deleted a file, the system thought I threw out that piece of drive with it. Maybe I reigned back on my careless ‘sudoing’, but Mint was able to take me all the way to the Arch variants without breaking.

Now I just do whatever Endeavour tells me. Next step will be to start messing properly with Arch (and kin), and see what all the fuss is about around FOSS.

  • IDDQD, IDKFA, ⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️⬅️➡️⬅️➡️B,A,Start, are the ones I know off the top of my head. Tons of people don’t want to grind, just sandbox, so you get city and people sims with infinite cash codes.

I guess what I’m getting at is, if they weren’t called cheat codes, would it even be considered cheating? Cheating usually involves someone being harmed or cheated out of something (money, love). Are there any victims in this case (strictly single player, of course)? I’d argue that you even lose out if you aren’t using codes, cuz you might say ‘fuck it’, and just move on to another thing (like your Terraria example).

Heck, we might as well tie this up with something modern and political, like right to repair. If you bought the software, you should be free to manipulate it, all the way up to (but not including) distributing your version for money. Single player cheating is about as harmful as a nice masturbation sesh.

  • Yeah, I think it’s more of a problem of you mansplaining (sorry if you don’t identify :)) something that you are not directly going through.

I don’t think you’re necessarily coming from a bad place, but after reading mech’s comment on blahaj, it looks like you tried to toe a line and grossly miscalculated.

If you really want back with this account, you probably want to let it simmer a bit. Take some time thinking about what you can learn from and contribute to the community, and message a mod or two (maybe they have a dl) when you figure it out. I wouldn’t bother with trying to explain the situation.

  • I had to google TERF, but I am familiar with the overall notion (I heard about it from gay circles).

So I think I’m missing context. If OP reacted unkindly to someone facing these issues IRL, banhammer was in place. Just talking about these stuff shouldn’t be tabu, because of tolerance.

That being said, if blahaj is a safe zone for the lgbtq+ folk, OP has only themselves to blame. I accidentally commented on a lemmygrad circlejerk thread with ‘well, akshually…’ and I was torn a new butthole. Even though my argument had merit, it wasn’t the right place for it.

Thanks again for the details. Lemmy is wild.
