Open Source@lemmy.ml•Creator of free Adobe clones unveils open-source Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Word replications — Autodesk tools and other subscription-based services may come next
18·8 hours agoExcuse me, do you call this open source?
For real. I can open source my valueable projects to you. But what if I deliberately make it hard to read, like mangling it or minifying it?
Hell, every piece of JavaScript code on Earth is technically open source. If you can read assembly, everything is open source.
Only having the source code distributed is not open source in spirit. The intention of opening the source code is welcoming auditing, learning, contributing, to name a few.
“Opening” the source code of slop, with tons of meaningless boilerplates, non-logical paths and flows, heavily coupled modules and functions, thousand-line long functions, achieves none of the purpose of the intention.
Some say people are hard to work on. I’d say you just need to work on stupid people.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you suddenly had 5 million dollars today, what would you do with it?
3·13 days agoI’m not sure how I would distribute them. I just want one at each limb, one works on my scalp and neck, and one on my sore back and shoulder. Still it sounds very crowded. Let’s just have two.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•'I'll have to throw away all the holiday food I bought': A Samsung update has broken lots of smart AI fridges in South Korea, including stopping them from cooling
1·15 days agoI bet you they’ll still going to “break” one month after warranty, thanks to the reliable friend real time chip inside.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•48,000 files deleted in 103 seconds: Claude Code just destroyed a developer’s work at the click of a button, and it shows why everyone should be careful around AI agents
11·15 days agoHey, mind your words! We were forced to use AI. There’s a fucking dashboard up there showing the correlation of token usage versus probability of getting fired next month! I fucking wish AI deletes all my files on the drive. That way, I can send out a complaint email to the IT department, and cc my manager and their managers, then refuse to work until they sort it out while getting paid as usual.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Because what could possibly go wrong with this quality-of-life upgrade?
1·16 days agoPlanes what??
No, it can’t. If something can be done, it will be done. This is not even talking about human nature but just probabilistics. There is always that fucking dude who pees and poos in the swimming pool.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•AI "actress" Tilly Norwood suffered an embarrassing glitch during interview when she inexplicably started speaking Cantonese.
13·19 days agoIt speaks in an accent that is similar to native English speakers learned to speak Cantonese where the tones are messed up. Not only that, but the sentence sounds like a mechanic translation from English to Mandarin, then read character by character in Cantonese.
(long pause switching from English to Cantonese) (speaking indistinctly)… are you asking about other persons, whether they are digital doubles, just like me? (speaking indistinctly again) think they have real directors, writers, (some words I can’t even recognize) (interrupted)
Perhaps you’re rich and have a premium mattress. That helps a lot.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•PS5 Linux lead quits as open-source projects have become “a bunch of noobs using LLMs” that “they don’t even understand”
13·25 days agoAI this, AI that
I had a coworker a few months ago who “taught” me how to get more accurate output from Copilot by cloning into an “agent hub”, which is a repository of .agent.md files, and instruct it to load a bunch a “skills”, and apparently involves fiddling a bunch of options in VS Code settings.

Linux@lemmy.world•PS5 Linux lead quits as open-source projects have become “a bunch of noobs using LLMs” that “they don’t even understand”English
16·25 days agoDude, are you me? You said every sentence I wanted to say.
I fucking hate this AI too. In my (huge) company they’re forcing us to use AI and treating the usage of token as a metric of performance. Say, I’m smart like Peter Parker and can move my fingers as fast as The Flash, I can still get a bad grade because I wrote the code myself.
I just love programming. I secretly enjoy doing my job not only for money. At least I used to. If I had a billion dollars I can give every one a middle finger and continue to work the way I like until they kick me out. But I am not rich in reality. I still need to feed myself and my family, and I’m too old to start over my career also too far from retirement.
One day I questioned the PR which was raised by a colleague. I can tell immediately that he proxied LLM output to the comment to answer my question. I empathized him, for one thing, that he was forced to work on this part of the project where he didn’t understand much just because the management “converted” every one of us to be a “full stack engineer” due to AI-empowerment, and second, he was really overwhelmed by the new workload, again, due to AI-empowerment.
This is shit, man. In the old days, raising a PR you don’t understand equals to showing every one else that you’re an idiot, a shameless, ignorant idiot. But not anymore today. We’re welcomed to do anything with AI. Low quality? Oh that’s because you “didn’t use AI properly”. Upper management or high ranked “engineers” will show you a demo in a Zoom meeting how they "HARNESS"ed AI to generate their shopping list. “Look? It’s 100% correct, so evidently you shall be able to accelerate your speed of work to 1000%.”
Project tech leads apparently focus on quality. Oh, I mean quality of their promotion rate. “If it compiles, if it passes the test (also AI-generate), ship it! What readability? What logic? The fuck you’re taking about? This code is Good Enough™!” We don’t need to understand the code. We’re discouraged to understand the code. Oh, but publicly they will stress, “AI is just a tool and you need to fully understand what your submitting.” And they still come after you when the AI-generated code fails in production.
I also have decades of coding experience, but now it looks worthless. It’s worthless at its face value: the corporation is no longer willing to pay for it. AI stole every answer on Stack Overflow, and now it spits out code that looks as if it’s written by a human. It’s good enough to them. Nobody wants the code perfect anymore.
It’s a crime against human intellect.
And there are jobs better fit in the tide of AI-replacement: doctors. Doctors have a worklog that’s of even higher quality for AI to train on. And if AI can generate correct boilerplates for silly requirements, AI can diagnose most everyday sickness.
Hey, don’t point fingers at me. I’m just trying to talk like AI bros. I swear to god if they don’t take legal liability in misdiagnosis, they will push AI doctors in hospitals.
Yes, they don’t take legal liability in business software. “Who cares?” All they will ever face is few of us who do know their crime, and the non existent class action.
Humanity looks pretty grim. I don’t fucking know how I’ll survive the world with greedy capitalists with the most powerful robbing tool by far.

It is now called ”Done".
