People got too used to being able to cosplay as oppressed victims of the state despite decades of minor policy changes between Democrat or Republican administrations.

All Americans got to enjoy conjuring any abstract worldview they wanted with the freedom of knowing they can say what they want whenever they want, never feel repression and just go home and watch tv. Maga got to pretend they were actively oppressed by the state which let’s them justify supporting real state oppression towards people they don’t like.

I imagine a lot of maga dorks voted for this, expected performative moves but a mostly stable continuity of the American center. I don’t know if they’ll ever admit it but I bet they are going to regret this president keeping his promises when they are stripped of all of their rights and their safety nets. The time for hyperbolics and hysterics are over, fascism is here, they are going to get ground down with the rest.

In general we give people who act stupid way too much credit, they’re actually just fucking stupid.

Conversely, we’re way too comfortable letting politicians play stupid instead of calling them out for their malicious intentions. And if the politician truly is stupid (Trump) there are handlers behind them pulling the strings

I find irony that they disregard expert opinions on the things they are experts for (climate scientists for example) but will accept an entire worldview of opinions based on someone being “smart” like the opinion of a software engineer has on philosophy or politics.

Reject the expert on the subject they’re an expert on because that makes them “elite” and they were trained to think that was bad, but accept an unfounded opinion of someone who may be smart in an unrelated field because the opinion is “different” so it must be “smart”

I think this is the trap all self assigned internet intellectuals fall into. They parrot opinions and vibes from echo chambers that discredit real science or real reporting and call it enlightenment. This in itself is stupid, but then even more stupid people are drawn in and suddenly we have a big club of geniuses

People asking if this is legal are missing the point. This is wrong, what is legal is whatever the executive decides, ICE can only be solved with constitunially supported extra judicial action.

Honestly this is true of many smart people in specialized professions

US cloud supports our military endeavors and it spies on you. That AI facial recognition drones and police are using are powered in large part by google and other big tech companies. The immensity of the data centers and how much they cost to build and operate is staggering. You have no idea how much simply not using google would impact the world as google has it’s hands in everything.

America is compromised, to what extent we know they aren’t our friends or what extent we are willingly letting them gain the advantage I am not sure.
