Seems like Erdogan is finally releasing his iron grip on the country since he does not plan to run for reelection. Turkey has had a uniquely independent geopolitical position that gives it immense negotiating power with both the West and the Global South. It’ll be interesting to see if they can continue that balance in the future.

I’m glad to hear it may be shifting. Long overdue for a people I found to be very friendly in my short visit there. They deserve much better.
