I feel like Threads is full of celebrities and Influencers These people sell their life for living.
Twitter… one step away for everything app.
I left Twitter and am now on this new app, X.
Y?
Twitter —> Mastodon Reddit —> Lemmy (and Kbin) Discord —> Matrix
I just saw a thing that a lot of furries have moved over to bluesky, which makes me think of the story how DVD won over the other one (betamax?) because porn was more commonly sold using that format. I could certainly be misremembering that anecdote but in any case, I think whichever social media handles NSFW content better will win out in the end.
VHS won over Betamax. This one was over porn despite Beta being technically superior.
DVD won over VCD. This one was over copy protection since VCD were trivial to decrypt and copy at the time.
Despite it being funny, beta didn’t lose over porn. VHS with a larger tape length captured consumers with ability to record for longer.
Both formats were at first for home tv recording, pre-recorded distribution only came once many households had VHS and this was viable. The formats weren’t designed for it.
I think he may have been referencing blu-ray vs hd-dvd. oh and DIVX! Not the encoder, the disc type. DVDs, but you had to fucking pay per watch lololol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIVX
Mastodon, toot toot
I’m on Mastodon. I saw the writing on the wall the moment Elon bought Twitter, and the instant the deal went through, I created a Mastodon account and set up a Discord server so I could invite friends from Twitter there, to help keep everyone in contact. I really lucked out because a lot of folks from the Twitter community I’m in jumped up Mastodon, and a lot to the same small server run by folks we know from Twitter. Folks who didn’t move over initially did make accounts, and have started posting more to Mastodon as Twitter gets worse.
Mastodon takes a lot of work to get really set up (not just the choosing a server thing, but actually having a lively enough feed that it doesn’t feel empty - you’ve legit got to be following several hundred people and following hashtags in order to get a really active feed, but once you hit that point, it’s great.
Mastodon. My Twitter account is empty and just used to contact companies for warranty stuff /order shipping issues etc.
I’m not interested in the slightest in celebrities/influencers/“creators”.
and just used to contact companies for warranty stuff /order shipping
Does that work?.. Just curious how one can use that to their advantage.
Well, it works for me. Customer assistance for some companies seems to work better on X/Twitter than through email.
one step away for everything app
idk what Elon is gonna get from making it a crap tier wechat
He is deluded, with an ego the size of Saturn.
a cut of every single transactional fee on the platform and in some cases a cut of the transaction. that’s all before being able to media mogul the narrative.
Here to throw Kbin into the ring. Does a great job of rounding up both lemming squeaks and random mastodon toots.
I’m really liking Kbin, but I do think the microblogging end of things could do with some refining. Most of the time I forget that it’s there.
I really hoped Threads would supplant Twitter, but it wasn’t even given a chance. All the people I follow have either stuck to Twitter over Bluesky’s invite system and Threads being full of braindead Instagram people, or rejected the idea of a Twitter replacement completely (sorry, cohost is not a good replacement!)
Had to think for a sec to remember Threads haha. Tumblr is kinda cool, though.

Wait wait wait… Anyone knows this platform called WireMin?
I did a serious App review, here are some pros & cons:
Pros:
1/ 100% Anonymous:
- No need for an email/phone number to create an ID.
- Untraceable IP address.
- End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) for Direct Messages (DMs), Chat rooms, and Blog posts on the Feed.
2/ 100% Censorship resistance:
- Accounts never get suspended (at least that’s what they say in the FAQ).
- Content/Messages can only be deleted by the user itself (chat space too, no one can ban you or remove your message).
- E2EE, no one can decrypt your message, it’s only viewable by you and the recipients. Decentralized, no one can access your content because data is only kept on your device.
Cons:
- Not enough users, so the whole network is not stable enough due to its decentralized structure.
- Notifications are only available for DMs, not for Chat space or Updates on the following Feed.
- Lacks some small features like polls/GIFs.
- Not open sourced but it is on the dapp store: https://www.alchemy.com/dapps/wiremin
Anyway, I think it could be a good alternative to Twitter/Facebook, due to their privacy issues and monopolistic behaviors. If you are a privacy-focused member, or if you run a sensitive topic community, I think it could be a good choice too.
The only thing I am concerned about is that they are not open source. As for the overall experience, I know they operate on a decentralized structure and personally, I do believe in the safety level of a decentralized network: 100% anonymous, 0 data leaks.
Here is a Tech Burp community, https://i.wiremin.com/invite/?g=k50233384621 mainly about TECH and DIGITAL PRIVACY discussion.

This comment is so obviously paid for, it hurts.
Plus that “accounts never gets suspended and no one but the user who made it can delete comments” just make me think it’s full of pedos and right wing domestic terrorists who found a place they can spew shit without anything happening
I just want to share an app review…
Firefish/Calckey. All the benefits of federating with Mastodon in a much nicer UI and UX.
Mastodon. I got to a point where it’s actually getting difficult to catch up with what people I follow have posted while I’ve been asleep.
sending e-mails to my ex comunnicated mutuals, my friend “jorgeballs” has sent to many of us their latest megatron x optimus fanfic chapter
