Yeah, this feels like coming home. I tried the other options, but none felt as smooth or as customisable as this.

Unsurprisingly the same issues as the Reddit app. The fonts are all over the place, the layout is kinda weird and the thumbnails are tiny.

I really didn’t like sync before, but gave it another try and really customized the UI and like it a lot now. The default font is so tiny

What design choice exactly? You can always fork it if you want to.

Edit: I just tried and the hidden posts all seem to stay hidden even after restarting the app. What exactly are you missing / is your problem?

Infinity was originally a Reddit app that has been forked. This came up more than once:

                  “This is intended”.

Maybe that’s different now, but normal people don’t pay attention to feature upgrades on open source projects that they don’t use, and the fact that this was intended behavior led me to believe there was no particular reason it would ever change, especially since it still hadn’t when I last used the app some time after the dev commented in the second screenshot.

    I have mixed feelings.

On one hand, it’s nice to have something familiar.

On the other hand, Sync was basically reddit for me, and I’m having something of knee-jerk reaction where I feel like I should be using something “fresh” that doesn’t remind me of my time on reddit.

Like, I don’t actually want Lemmy to feel like a straight up drop-in replacement for reddit. I want it to feel unique.

I like some of the other apps, but none feel “there” yet. Might just stick with the web app for now.

(Also, not open source. I trust the dev, but I just want to be able to install shit from F-Droid or Izzyondroid or whatever instead of relying on the Play Store. I understand the decision and don’t hold it against him at all, but it’s something I’ve always disagreed with.)

Use sync but switch up your theme!

I used to equate Sync with Reddit too, but now I have a different perspective.

Reddit is nothing but a glorified link aggregator. Sync was my preferred way of viewing said list of links. Now that I have the exact same experience on Lemmy I’ve realized that Sync wasn’t Reddit, it was link aggregation and where those links come from doesn’t really matter.

It’s kind of poetic because that’s the promise of Lemmy. It doesn’t matter where the links are hosted.

I’ve never used Sync before, but something worth noting is that it isn’t open source, and there are ads and in app purchases according to the google store page
