There are some scientists here, so occasionally there are disagreements on the intersection of science and consumer products. People may think only the right deny science, but on the left there are strong feelings that corporations are bad, natural things are good, etc. I’ve been surprised to see rational voices pop up on some threads where glyphosate is being eviscerated or there’s some report of microplastics being found on Mars.

Right. I was only addressing your statement that making safe products protects from lawsuits. That’s not true. If Roundup caused no increase in cancer rates, it would not mean Bayer could not be sued - and lose - in court.

If I’ve learned anything from the Fediverse, it’s that people like Tyler Perry ought to be arrested and executed for crimes against humanity. If current governments won’t do that, the coming revolution will.

But in all seriousness, there are some very reasonable answers here. Just don’t bandy the “b” word around lightly.

I am quite sure that doing that will not shield companies from lawsuits or even large verdicts against them.

The judicial system is not designed to settle scientific questions. It is designed to be an adversarial system that gets to a resolution. It may be doing close to the best that it can, but that doesn’t mean the resolutions are based on science or deliver truths.
