It won’t. AI doesn’t fire anyone. AI doesn’t replace anyone. AI shows the potential of doing the same job as a human, so another human fires that person and replaces them with an AI.

The CEO isn’t going to fire himself. His “replacement” with AI is going to be him using it to make decisions, and feeling so smart about “using all the tools available”, but he’ll still be there to collect a paycheck.

And Amazon makes about 2500 dollars every second. If we taxed them at my tax rate, that would be ~1000 dollars a second. So every minute that Amazon is taxed at the same rate as the rest of us would pay for services for a homeless person. There are ~180,000 homelsee people in CA, we could pay for 60 of them in an hour, 1440 a day, and all of them in 125 days. From taxing one company’s current profits at the same rate that the rest of us are taxed.

Passive hostility. Slow roll everything. Throw a wrench in every system you can. Stop at all stop signs and railroad tracks, and wait 3 seconds to confirm all other traffic has stopped. Make every request in writing, using snail mail, then call every day (or multiple times a day) to see if they got your requests. Demand everything communication to you is done in the slowest and most expensive way for them possible. File FOIA requests for everything. Cop pulls you over, take a while to find your license and registration. Become sludge, become a quagmire. Make anything and everything the government does to you a huge use of their time and effort. Embrace your inner old man “get off my lawn” energy.

But the US Constitution doesn’t make that many distinctions between citizens and non-citizens, especially in the bill of rights, where most individual protections are laid out. The 4th amendment protects you from unwarranted search and seizure, and makes no restrictions based on nationality. The 5th amendment protects you from testifying against yourself. The 1st amendment protects your speech, the government can not suppress your opinions, and equally, they cannot compell you to make statements.

There are some “exceptions” to the 4th amendment, but those specifically have to do with protecting the borders and inspecting imports and exports. IMHO, those exceptions should be unconstitutional, but I’m not a bought and paid for SC justice, so fuck my opinion.

Pretty sure that Mitch is still alive, but he’s basically slightly more aware and animated than a houseplant. I think that cognitively, he’s gone. Probably has to be told what to do, like eat, sleep, walk, etc, and he forgets what he was doing after just a few seconds.

We’re kind of torn between the need to know the status of a prominent senator, and a degree of class and compassion (whether Mitch deserves it or not) when dealing with someone who just had a medical event. I think Beshear should demand a visit with McConnell to assess if he can continue the duties of his office. If he is no longer fit, then a replacement should be seated to finish the term. If there is a disagreement about Mitch’s ability to perform the duties of his office, let him publicly speak to his constituents and have them advocate on his behalf.

Anyway, to hell with Mitch. Motherfucker has been ruining this country almost his entire life. We are due a reprieve from his shitty presence when he dies, and it’s bullshit that saving grace is being held up by the thinnest of lame excuses on why there can’t be a definitive proof of life.

I see it as an extra “thank you” if someone goes above and beyond what I was expecting for a service. It’s not something that should be given out lightly or something that is expected, but I also know that tipping is necessary for people in some jobs to make a living. It’s not a fault of their own, but a fault of a system that saw a benefit they were getting, and was like “oh, we can just under-pay these employees and use tipping as leverage against them.” Do I hate the tipping system in the US? Absolutely. Am I going to impose financial stresses (by not tipping) on the waitstaff at a restaurant in order to make a point about how badly they are compensated for their work? Absolutely not.

I don’t think tipping is weird on it’s own, but the default expectation of tipping, and the fuckery around wages that makes tips essential to earning “a living” instead of a nice bonus is definitely weird.

I stopped saying the whole pledge in kindergarten. Didn’t seem right to pledge to a god I didn’t believe in.
