Pissin’ the night away…
Pissin’ the night away
Well, I can’t argue with that, that’s my philosophy as well.
Also, I sing the songs that remind me of the good times, I sing the songs that remind me of the bad times.
Same reason Mastodon isn’t as popular as Twitter… a lot of people really don’t understand the concept of federation, or why it’s important in order to maintain a robust and healthy discussion. They’re fine with dictatorship as long as it aligns with their sensibilities.
Also, the concept of “one website, one app” is infinitely easier to comprehend than “many instances, many apps, still one protocol”.

1·2 days agoI see. Thanks for the detailed explanation!
Just bought a mate gourd BTW. It’s kinda modernist (comes with a lid) but still has a bombilla, but since there’s no big mate culture in my country, I suppose that’s acceptable (there’s no risk of running into traditionalists here). Hopefully it still beats drinking mate from tea bags, which is what I’ve been doing so far.

Right, that’s where the French press sieve comes in. It’s a permanent metal filter like this one, which is fine enough to deal with ground coffee, so mate should be no problem, as it’s usually much coarser. A lid with something like this underneath should be able to keep all the mate inside the cup, and also prevent clogging. Combine with an insulated mug that keeps the water hot for more than five minutes, and you shouldn’t have to constantly refill it either.
I understand that traditions are important, but are they important enough to scald or impale yourself over on the freaking bus?

1·4 days agoHave lids not been invented in Uruguay yet?
Also, instead of a straw, wouldn’t it be possible to use a sippy cup lid (like those on coffee travel mugs), but with a built-in sieve (like those on a French press), or would that ruin the experience?

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Have you noticed the new way of promoting horrible food by telling you it has lots of protein
1·4 days agoYes, but probably not a good one (wheat contains gluten, which is a protein)
DVDs exist. They can fit approx. 7B params, enough to be somewhat productive.

I think that just as with democracy, it’s definitely flawed, but apparently still the best solution we’ve got, because every alternative that has been tried has turned out to be worse.
Forced redistribution of resources, unless it’s by court order as reparation for a crime that was demonstrably committed, never reduces the amount of injustice in the world, because it robs people of opportunities to be genuinely charitable.

2·6 days agoCame here to say this, but in my heart I knew it had already been said.
“Wasn’t the worst general” is a weird way to say “he could have been king of America if he’d wanted”.
Oh, I’ve seen plenty of alternatives, but I’ve never seen any of them work out in the long run. They always sound good on paper but end up disastrous when implemented in the real world.
Also, banking, the main feature of capitalism, which turns capital into a tradable good, is much older than you think. Making loans and charging interest are already mentioned in the Bible, an in fact, have been around for at least 2000 years before that (Source).
War never changes, and neither does business. It’s just the trends that change.
Just ask Ea-Nasir.

As all things are wont to do in the long run.
One day, you too will be food for worms, who will then shit you out (well, your soft tissues at least).
