Sort of. The idea is to avoid giving California power to decide policy for the entire country.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•While everyone is trying to build a profitable business using AI, why can't AI companies make a profitable businesses using their own AI?
8·17 days agoAI is becoming a pretty big problem where executives are challenging experts or subject matter experts on topics based on their Ai usage. The problem is because the answers sound really good, but often the prompts aren’t quite right so then the experts need to do a bunch more work to explain and justify things that the executives just find rebuttals for through further ai prompting.

5·2 months agoTrump has a cult of personality that took years to build, and isn’t simply transferred to someone else. MAGA doesn’t survive if he’s gone. Will there still be fascists, racists, and so on? Yes, but they won’t be unified anymore, and they won’t be grouped together with the rest of the right anymore either. This will be good for the left in the short term because the right will be less powerful, but also bad for the left because it won’t be as easy to attack the right.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•There’s a lot of confusion about what democratic socialists want, and that’s fair. Even within our group, there are differences among us.
1·2 months agoIf you see everything through the lens of racism, then we can’t even have a conversation because I’m not talking about anything race related at all. Race is literally irrelevant to my point.

1·2 months agoIn what ways has the united states shifted right over the last 20 years? Tbh I’ve never understood this narrative. To me it’s very very obvious that the united states has shifted left steadily for my whole life. Short term there have been rightward shifts, but the overall trend is definitely left.

1·2 months agoWhat, you annoyed because I interrupted the circle jerk with a different opinion? Do you actually think it would be more fun or intellectually stimulating if I dropped a standard response like the rest of these bots? Most threads are so boring, the same opinions repeated throughout the thread but trying to one up each other in how hard they agree, craving the validation they get from a few up clicks. What a miserable and boring existence. Sounds like this conversation has run it’s course though, so i will leave you to it.

1·2 months agoThat’s because it’s lemmy, almost entirely progressives. The populists on the conservative side making bad policy are slashing funding with little regard for long term impact that’s just as harmful as the populist leftist approaches, you just don’t see me having those conversations here because nobody on lemmy is advocating for it. I think policy should encourage competition and that’s about it. At least in regards to economic issues. The market can sort these things out if it is allowed to work, as long as there is healthy competition.

1·2 months agoMonetary policy is only one possible factor for driving inflation. High demand and cost of goods and services are other major factors, which Mamdani definitely has influence over. Also anyone can balance a budget for the short term. That’s my whole point, that these short term policies are popular, but devastating in the long term if you don’t actually know what you are doing.

1·2 months agoWhattabout Congress? Yes, they are also woefully lacking in economics qualifications. That’s how we are in a perpetual cycle of increasing entitlements driving inflation in the first place. But then Mamdani kicking the inflation machine into high gear while trying to control prices can only end in economic disaster.

How about everyone eats what they want? Not everything needs to be decided by the federal government.
