Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Finally happish with my all-in-one homelab (20+ services and way too much tinkering)English
1·19 days agoMy last gen Homeserver was like this too. It worked okay, but network configuration, especially port forwarding and ipv6 sucked.
My current generation is just debian stable again, it just works.

Programming@programming.dev•Huggingface have scraped the entirety of Github.
5·24 days agoI’ve put Anubis before most of my website, including my forgejo instance. For the projects hosted there, which is not all, I can only hope that that’s enough.
I like to have the visibility and CI of GitHub. But this sucks ass.
It’s really simple. Would you rather sort through trash to get second hand materials for your product that you can’t even use for things like food packaging, or buy the clean plastic that is a byproduct from oil refining that they have so much of they pay you to take away from them?
I’m not saying this as a defense. But it shows why capitalist corporations will always choose one thing over the other unless some force makes them.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something you no longer buy due to intrusive, insidious technology being added into it?
4·1 month agoThere is some open source software that is associated with Facebook, like compression with Zstandard, a very common and useful compression format. Don’t care that it’s from them in that case.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did you learn by being DISLIKED at work?
1·2 months agoYou can still tell the people you trust. There are always more people unhappy with the conditions than they openly say.
And as I said, even if you’re the only unionist in a company, it still has benefits, like access to lawyers and payment while you’re on strike. A union is like an insurance, except less capitalist.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did you learn by being DISLIKED at work?
1·2 months agoAdding to what I’ve said: yes, being a known unionist can make you a target. This is why it’s a highly sensitive piece of data, and at least at work, it can be a good idea to not speak of it too openly to people you’re not sure you can trust.

1·2 months agoI don’t agree they are the only way. Political parties are very much possible, and governments can enforce inheritance and wealth taxes, for example.
But they are a very good way, of course (not mutually exclusive at all with politics too!).
A simple example: Imagine a small business, 20 people and a boss. Boss is an asshole, demands unpaid overtime, and bad conditions (like working without gloves on ice cold items). If even half of the people in boss inc unionize, suddenly, boss cannot exploit them without risking bankruptcy.
In the US specifically, it seems like you first need to take back your government from fascism/trumpism, which is why ordinary can be exploited this much. That’s not an easy task, but please keep in mind that most people are not fully committed ideological fascists.

8·2 months agoUnions also give you an insurance. They have lawyer experts for work and social policy matters, for example.
Besides the whole chicken and egg thing.

8·2 months agoI don’t like how the pairs $(h, h^‘)$ are implicitly the same as $(h^’, h)$. I think the post confuses the pairs with small sets. Normally, order matters in a pair.
