I think they’re just greedy, and they think that because they’ve got more money than everyone that means they’re smarter, better, more deserving than everyone. It’s not a far jump from there to “You will all kneel before me!”

It’s obviously profoundly unhealthy for society to have extremely powerful individuals around who have this attitude. They need to be removed from society by whatever means necessary and steps taken to ensure their ilk cannot rise again.

That might work when everyone has fast internet. There’s a significant amount of infrastructure needs improving before that happens though.

A pet. My dog died a few years ago. I’d love to get another, maybe adopt, but I couldn’t afford the healthcare now. It got pretty expensive towards the end of her life and I just couldn’t do that now. I also can’t afford the time that a dog deserves - I’m working more overtime and still feel like I have less money.

Odd, tinned fish is still pretty cheap here in the UK. I guess that’s tariffs again? Though I thought the US did a lot of its own fishing? Mind you, when I say ‘pretty cheap’ it very much depends on the type of fish, the quality, and the sustainability of the fishery.

Yeah pearl barley can’t be beaten in a stew or even a curry. And I’ve started eating beyond burgers instead of meaty ones - I’m not a veggie, I enjoy meat. But I’m not comfortable with the ethical issues, and it’s full of saturated fats. They cost about the same, are less unhealthy, and they’re tasty. A soon as the alternatives industry can come up with more products like this that I can afford, I’m out.

It’s previously been used against women, Jews, Muslims, gay people, gypsies, communists, any number of groups. Give the people a group to hate so they don’t start side-eying the small minority who have everything while the rest of us work and starve.

My only gaming machine is a steam deck, and I can’t see GTA6 running on that. . . so I won’t be playing it, at least not for a few years until I upgrade. Like you, I don’t really care.

TBF we already have hugely invasive surveillance, at least here in the UK. Successive governments have cut policing and invested in cameras instead. It hasn’t made us safer, but we kind of got boiled-frogged into living in a panopticon. There was a bit of negative publicity recently about use of facial recognition at choke-points like major public transport hubs - but it never really went anywhere. Make people feel scared and they will give up their rights for the illusion of security.
