The only people who were “tricked” by Trump were the hateful and stupid. He learned a lesson, sure, but it was not a difficult one to learn and yet he it took this to finally make him figure it out.

And we need to be clear that “vacations” does not mean travelling. People will do basic tourist crap in Italy and call themselves worldly, whatever. But people do need money to just exist in their own space without working for a week(longer, obviously). People can’t even be tourists in their own cities and towns.

Right? Same problem in Canada, we bitch and moan and will spend so much energy on so many things but our turnout is dogshit. The last Montréal municipal election had 36%, the last couple Ontario provincial elections had less than half, and the last federal election was only 69.5%. Last time the federal election saw more than 70% was in 1988.
The honest fact of it all is that votes are currently not weighted differently. No matter how fucked things get, if populations said “NO” to these openly corrupt assholes then that would be the end of them. Instead, it feels like nothing will stop idiots from voting for pure evil and nothing will get 30+% of the population to actually pay any attention at all.
People keep saying that, but 1) having a degree is not a sign of someone’s general intelligence, not even close, and 2) it absolutely has a greater effect the dumber you are.
Intelligence is curiosity and being able to have a greater degree of nuance in your thinking. It’s being self-aware, and about being able to understand transferable properties. A LOT of people, regardless of education, struggle deeply with those concepts.
At the very least, activities within the schools will not be participating in shitting all over the children’s brains. That still means something.

My friends dad is like that. We had a whole conversation/argument one time over a corporations right to basically do whatever it wanted because they had the position of power/ownership. The energy there has been chill since then, but my friend also just moved out into a house, so it’ll be less of an issue.
It’s interesting, with those people, where even the faintest possibility that something positive could maybe be misused is enough to gut the whole thing, but you show imperically how capitalism is used for evil fare more often than for good and they’re chill with that.

In the US, if the wait time is ever quicker it’s because a lot of people who SHOULD be there just died at home or at least tried to tough it out and will live with those consequences for the rest of their lives.

I stopped paying when they started to openly support Israel. I’m fine with paying a service to maintain itself and Youtube is storing a LOT of high quality video, but giving away millions worth of support to a genocidal state is not something a streaming service’s operating costs should include sooooo fuck ‘em. Conservatives hate teachers because teachers don’t need to work when kids aren’t in school for the summer. That’s the only complaint I’ve ever truly heard from them. Meanwhile, those same teachers are up stupid early, on time every fucking day, dealing with over-filled classes of every type of child, and then doing even more labour in the evenings as they aren’t officially given much of any time to create plans or mark work.
Literally you did excuse them, or at the very least attempt to argue that they’re being forced to behave this way under threat of poverty(which is trying to absolve them of reaponsibility, which is definitionally an excuse). This isn’t working at Walmart so you can put food on the table, it’s getting your wage from illegally attacking visible minorities in a million colourful ways. YOU are literally the original poster here, of something showing ICE agents not doing anything remotely legal. If there exists a “good” ICE agent out there, they are confirming their visits, knowing and operating within their legal reach, and stopping at least their immediate coworkers from clearly illegal activity. These two are not “just in a bad situation”, they’re garbage people who joined the oppressors to participate in the oppression.

My ex’s parents almost donated a little crystal bowl thing. If they did, someone at the thrift shop would have found a nice little crystal bowl thing.
The reality? Her mom’s family was living in Europe because her grandfather’s job and while they were there they met some people who escaped the USSR. Long story short, since they were allowed, her family ended up crossing into the USSR with a bundle of photos and letters to give to the family of the people they had met. The family still behind the iron curtain was so grateful they gave them the crystal bowl. That bowl would have been very valuable to them, but the information about their family in France was worth so much more.
I took the bowl instead. Its little story, and that family’s gratitude, is not forgotten and now it holds some candy on my bookshelf.

Explain how what I’ve been doing has been haopening for decades. I’m specifically saying that way too many people have been scared into strategic voting and that we all need to start voting FOR things instead of against them. Literally said it’s not been happening, because it fucking hasn’t been and I would like to stop being so alone in standing by my convictions.
Ranked choice would be sick and I know it’s the way forward. Here in Canada the centrist LPC was elected largely on updating our electoral system IN 2015 and then nearly immediately went “it’s too haaaaaard” when they realized that they would probably never win another election. That was blatantly anti-democratic and should have led people to never vote for them ever again, but they are STILL in power because we’re a bunch of spineless cowards. We TRIED to do what you’re asking and it DID NOT WORK. The only times we’ve seen the LPC do anything good are when they’ve had a minority government and the progressive NDP could use their leverage to force them to do the right thing. The NDP, I might add, used ranked-choice voting for their recent leadership race.

It wasn’t, and maybe still isn’t in a lot of places, but auto manufacturers didn’t want to slow their customers down after all the pedestrian injuries/deaths so they invented jay-walking as more of a propaganda thing. It’s so ubiquitous though that law or not, it’s treated like it’s a high crime anyway.
