I would also like to see a nationwide law enforcement license, with mandatory inclusion of disciplinary information, so an especially bad cop can’t just get a job in the next state.

I work retail in the US. It’s not just some meaningless “policy”; it’s drilled into us that we shouldn’t obstruct a suspected shoplifter, confront them, or even politely ask if they have a receipt. People who try to intervene are putting themselves and others at a bigger risk than they realize. What she did was a MAJOR no-no.
Companies have decided that the loss of profits from shoplifting are negligible compared to the risk of a lawsuit or worker’s comp due to an injury. Plus, for all I know, the shoplifter has a weapon and/or untreated mental disorders. I am neither qualified nor paid to deal with that.

If she made a decision this poor and reckless, I think it’s safe to assume that she has made other terrible decisions in the past and would make more in the future. I’d like to know how her coworkers feel about the situation.

So… it’s the most realistic dating sim ever?

Points for the weird, unsettling head

Does that woman even exist, or is she AI slop? I’m betting on slop.
What is she referring to when she says “changed the rules?” The rules of basic human decency, or something more concrete?
iPad. It works, and it’s convenient. If people love or hate certain OSs, that’s fine.

For some reason, I assumed it would at least be made of some kind of metal. I should have known better lol

I really, really hope that this is more bullshit saber-rattling, and nobody actually dies.
It’s fine if OOP hates South Park. It’s a divisive show. However, dark humor is indeed a valuable thing. Yes, sometimes assholes call sexism, racism, homophobia (etc) “dark humor” in an attempt to excuse what they know is wrong, but that doesn’t mean that the concept of dark humor is flawed.
Dark humor is often used to mock and/or point out hypocrisy. Sometimes it deliberately makes us uncomfortable. We should always reflect on ourselves and our culture as a whole. That’s a vital part of becoming a better person.
If OOP chose to “mute” me for expressing that opinion, I don’t think I’d be missing much.

They don’t care

“American companies need access to all those impressionable, developing minds.”

A Somali referee, who was set to become the first person from his country to officiate at a World Cup, has been denied access to the US and will not work at the tournament.
Fear not. He will officiate at a future World Cup regardless. I’m glad it won’t be at such a shitty World Cup, and he won’t have to endure questions about America and Trump every time his history-making accomplishment is brought up. At this point, I hope he refuses even if his “status” magically changes.
I think it’s safe to say that AI hate is indeed popular irl, we just don’t have frequent conversations about it.
Personally, I think AI may have potential (hey, I’m a sci-fi fan), but we are going about it in the least honest, ethical, and sustainable way possible. I DO NOT want the current generation of AI “entrepreneurs” to have ANY influence over real AI, if we ever even develop it at all.
I hope that Bezos and the like are remembered like those carnival hucksters who built absurd flying contraptions that didn’t work. When the Wright brothers came along, everyone promptly forgot their names.

For those of us who go by Fahrenheit, 50 C is 122 F! Damn!
