there needs to be a name for the kind of affinity scam that targets smart but insular nerd cultures and uses their community’s nature as a defense and propagation mechanism, because I keep seeing this get pulled off successfully. there shouldn’t be this much money to steal in linux phones or space games or believing very hard in gamestop, but there’s something in the nature of online communities that makes this stuff profitable
