Happy new year! What have you been playing?
I’ve been continuing on binding of Isaac a lot. Got a lot of completion marks with tainted lost finally.
Also while not a video game I recently picked up the slay the spire board game and have been having an absolute blast with it
No Man’s Sky.
Unreal Tournament on internet archive, Trials Fusion, and Inside.
I went outside of my usual wheelhouse and tried playing some of the Wario games for the gameboy advance. Finished Warioware in one afternoon (very fun short little collection of mini games) and currently on Wario Land 4. It’s a platformer with light puzzle elements, and I’m quite surprised at how much I’ve been enjoying it, as I usually don’t mesh with platformers.
In a way, it reminds me of one of the later Commander Keen games, but with much better level design and variety in gameplay.
It’s a polished and quirky little game, and its handheld roots lend itself to short sessions, which has been all I have time for.
I think I’ll be investigating the earlier entries after I complete it. Certainly recommend it if you have access to a handheld emulator!
Wario games have some of the most polished classic platforming mechanics.
Finishing up Frostpunk. I started last year, then put it down basically for a year. Anyway, I recently finished 2 of 3 DLC campaigns. Working on the last one right now. Easily the hardest colony manager I’ve played, but it’s so good. Can’t wait to start Frostpunk 2 after this.
With friends, playing Barotrauma. We’re doing our annual playthrough/attempt to get the to the end. Which we done once. There’s 5 of us regularly playing (a 6th sometimes joins), which for us, seems to be the minimum we need. Think we just entered The Great Sea, which is the 4th of 5 biomes. Just upgraded to a Tier 3 sub.
Frostpunk 2 is about politics. I hated it and don’t play it at all. It’s not even similar to the first amazing game. You may be disappointed unless you like politics.
I do like politics, so perhaps it is right up my alley! I know it’s fairly different from FP1, but we’ll see.
I unlocked the final difficulty in Windblown. However, I’m gonna play the previous one a bit more, to get some more reps, since the stat increase for enemies seems just insane.
Then I played more Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire. While the game is good, it took me a while to get into it. I don’t like getting around with the ship, it’s just super tedious. When you don’t enable enemy scaling, the world is also full of enemies, that are far too strong for you (I did beat some fights, the game said are probably too difficult). Now, after 25h I’m level 10, can do more stuff, and it’s getting more interesting.
Finally, my friend and I continued our Baldur’s Gate 3 coop run, and we just made it to Act 3. Because this is a Dark Urge run, and we are pretty much killing everything, there was a bunch of stuff we couldn’t do in Act 2, so it felt a bit short (except for our month break or something), although we did spend a lot of time in combat.
My partner and I just finished Cyberpunk. Still addicted Balatro but taking breaks with the latest alpha of Automation to build stupid supercharged engines.
Thanks to the Get Played podcast, I only hear this in the Resident Evil merchants voice.
Got some raaaaaare games on sale stranga…
Warframe new big story(quest) lore came out been checking that out. Quite fun.
Happy new year!
This week I finished the Endwalker MSQ in ffxiv, which I loved. I’m now taking a break before going into the post ew patch quests to complete most raids which I slipped and a few other quests, while leveling white mage.
Played a bit more of Guild Wars 2 with a friend, but continuing only confirmed our negative first impressions, so we dropped it a bit after the first set of story missions.
For non videogames: we also continued our dnd campaign and played call of cthulhu’s Lightless Beacon
