Summary
A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly setting fire to U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman’s office in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, citing anger over the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding a TikTok ban.
The suspect admitted to the arson, which caused no injuries as the building was unoccupied.
The ban, upheld due to national security concerns about TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, has sparked significant public reactions.
Grothman had supported legislation to ban TikTok earlier in 2024.
Me googling “Fon du Lac” to see if it’s in Florida: Nope, Wisconson…good for you Florida, you dodged this one!
They may take our lives.
But they will never take our brain rot.
The that that someone did this, proves these WEBSITES are dangerous to citizens mentality.
I think it’s pointless to point out that nobody else is stupid enough to think this, but here I am saying it anyway.
It’s a novelty account. The old one was called BigMacHole. I bet it got banned.
What’s more dangerous to me is the fact that the government is trying to restrict our sources of information. People are PISSED. And should they be setting fire to congressmen’s offices? Nah but there’s a reason people have fled to another Chinese app in protest.
What is that reason because I don’t get it?
Because if the US is putting up a firewall then it’s no better than China.
banning apps from being published in app stores isn’t even close to the same thing as the great firewall.
You just made me realize that TikTok is still available in browser form. What a bunch of fuss over nothing.
Internet has put a lot of effort into being free (except A Shit Pie trying to party ruin it).
Oh, it’s you again.
I think people with publicly searchable addresses shouldn’t try to actively fuck over large swaths of people in one go. We should all act with integrity anyway, but boy when you’re public, it’s a really good idea to put in a little more effort on that front.
A lot of people don’t seem to realize that a lot of small businesses and sole proprietors rely on tictok to generate business. For most people it’s just a stupid video app but for tens of thousands of americans, their livelihood just got ripped out from under them. I think those people have a right to be pissed.

You want a citation that the e-commerce industry exist? And that they’ve been protesting since all this started?
About what?.. that people are relying on the platform as their lively hood.
Bread and circuses, people
