This proposal includes earning up to UAH 1 million (around US$24,000) within a year of service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), along with opportunities for free education and preferential housing loans.
That’s more than what I get here in the West. Good on them, they deserve it.

Well… yes and no. Sure you can be brave while being out there outside the military draft, but here in Ukraine, whether you are fit for war or not, healthy enough for war or not, whether you want it or not, whether you are more useful outside of the trenches or not, you will be sought out and drafted. Taken by force just outside your house while walking your dog. Without any questions.

The source is me. I’m from Kyiv, Ukraine. I have not been drafted yet because I haven’t left my apartment for three months already. The nearest military drafters’ hunting post is ~100 meters from my house. They use civil vehicles to jump out of and grab men in surprise. Foreign help is not enough to cover the overwhelming enemy force with weapons, not men.
