The Conservative party confirmed late Friday afternoon it has dropped Payette as a candidate – just the latest in a slew of candidates shed by the Liberals and Conservatives this week over contentious comments ahead of Monday’s nomination deadline.

The PPC should sue for gimmick infringement at this point.

At the very least it doesn’t seem to be working, considering that this is the fifth time in three days that they had to do this.

    These guys are fucking psychos:

*Mr. Payette left a series of comments on Provost’s Facebook page in French beginning Thursday night and into Friday, often taunting her to participate in a live debate with him.

In one post, he wrote that he would look her “straight in the eye” as he tears up Bill C-21, the gun control law passed under former prime minister Justin Trudeau, in Parliament under a Conservative majority.

He said he would then use the bill as toilet paper every time he uses the bathroom in Parliament.

“It will be uncomfortable but I will do it to bring justice to all the country’s sport shooters,” he wrote in French.

Ms. Provost had survived the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique massacre, when a gunman brimming with hate for feminists killed 14 women and injured as many others, later becoming a prominent Canadian gun-control advocate and now a star Liberal candidate.*

Ive lost track. Is this the 4th or the 5th candidate the Cons have had to drop because they’re found to be a complete shitbag (even by CPC’s low standards)?

5th and it’s not bad by CPC standards it’s because they don’t want their base to turn away liberal/ndp voters

A party that accepted so many of that sort of people as candidates without any discernable vetting isn’t likely to attract a lot of center or left voters anyway.

Clearly most of those weren’t “core supporters” and more “I don’t like the other guy”.

When offered a better option, they bailed rapidly.

“Latest in a slew of || by the Liberals and Conservatives”? I’m pretty sure the Liberals only got rid of one guy in total for a single bad remark, while this is now what, the fifth guy in only like three days? And for years if not decades of saying terrible things?
