for anyone looking for a gentle introduction to why generative AI fucking sucks, here’s some long-form YouTube sneer that goes surprisingly deep. none of what’s in the video will be new to our regulars, but I’m gonna keep the link in my back pocket for the next time my friends or family ask me why I’m not an AI fan

The fact that “artificial intelligence” suggests any form of quality is already a paradox in itself ^^. Would you want to eat an artificial potato? The smokes and mirrors should be baked in.

I would eat artificial meat(*) so I think it is all a bit context depending. So I don’t agree with you on the paradox there. But I do get where you are coming from, artificial potato (it is actually beef!) sounds weird.

*: if the environmental cost isn’t too excessive.

Just finished watching this. Good video. It’s worth watching even if you are a regular.

Not a direct reference to your post, but a bug, and I have no idea who to talk about the bug here. Guess I should call @dgerard. But in the video preview here on awful.systems it says “https://ko-fi.com/jimmcgeeGPT2 Says”

But the actual video description says:

    GPT2 Says…"

So awful systems eats the end of lines and this messes up the url.

Edit: any way to tell awfulsystems not to make links out of posted links? I did manage to basically /dev/null the wrong one E:fixed

Maybe wrap the stuff that gets autolinked in code blocks?

the Lemmy code appears to eat line endings, I think @self is looking into it

if the other badges idea becomes a thing, we should have badges for the ways in which lemmy ate our input

version 0.19 of Lemmy is shaping up to include a gigantic list of changes so I’m waiting for it to reach stable before I write more fixes, but low hanging fruit like this is definitely on my list of stuff to fix if the Lemmy devs don’t
