I’m trying to download apps from fdroid, and it’s saying that f droid is failing to connect. Any clue what could be the issue ?

The f droid app.
Give Droid-ify a try. At times it seems that the servers are being hammered and so things are slower, but they seldom ever fail.

Neo store casused my phone to hang while synchronizing repositories. Droidify didn’t have this problem.
Fdroid uses repository mirrors. The mirror used might have had an outage. Try turning off all mirrors except the official one and retry.
