we’re pretty sure he really did just get kicked for not being enough of an AI doomsday cultist

A boardroom coup by the rationalist cultists is quite plausible, as well as being very funny. Rationalists’ chronic inability to talk like regular humans may even explain the statement calling Altman a liar. It’s standard for rationalists to call people who don’t buy their pitch liars.

So what from normal people would be an accusation of corporate war crimes is, from rationalists, just how they talk about the outgroup of non-rationalists. They assume non-believers are evil.

this makes way more sense than any of the wild theories the orange site was coming up with yesterday. I’m torn between hoping rationalist infighting and a potential lawsuit from Altman ruins OpenAI and fearing what a well-funded (for now at least) corporation that buys into Eliezer “bomb the datacenters” Yudkowsky’s cult from the top down is capable of, especially with how vocal yud has been lately over his dissatisfaction with his limited geopolitical influence, and all the right-wing shit he’s been sprinkling into his Twitter rants

I just can’t imagine the board saying he lied to them unless they have some way to back it up. If they made that up couldn’t they be on the wrong end of a wrongful termination lawsuit?

“ftx weirdos crept into openai!” message probably won’t make openai too radioactive to handle, but i guess it might make number no go up for five minutes which will be pretty funny
