Everybody I know who plays the civ series complain about the gameplay being ever simplified and dumbed down. And with the latest game being divided into epochs wat?

I wouldn’t know, I stopped playing after it peaked with civ4.

    Now I play Unciv! 😁

I’ve got hundreds thousands (lol) of hours in Civ VI alone. I’ve paid for copies for PC, Switch, and Android (and I’m cheap as hell so that’s really saying something). I played Civ VII for maybe an hour or two and then never came back to it. I shouldn’t have to tell you that a Civ game you can willingly put down is not a good Civ game. Aside from the game just not being very fun to begin with, the transition between ages is so clunky, it just completely ruins all of your planning and the pacing of the game.

With this news I saw some DLC had been released since I tried the game and thought ‘oh great, maybe they fixed it a bit or added new mechanics.’ Nope, just more fluff. Never again, Firaxis. You will never get another dime from me.

I know the feel. But don’t let the peabrains get you down, find something else to play which brings you joy and fun again.

Or do like me and mostly just give up on gaming as it’ll be a long time until it’s going to be fun again - Going from a lifestyle gamer to a filthy casual in just a few years.

It’s what happens when you copy someone else’s homework; the formula they tried to emulate with VII is Humankind, which actually is a good game, but they didn’t really understand the secret sauce that made it good. They just stole mechanics and called it a day.

Hahah this is why I got 100% turned off by Civ VII. I played humankind and it was not good. It was fun for a bit but got stupidly repetitive and they never ever managed to polish it to completion. The core game is amazing, the battles especially, but they never managed to balance it correctly and it just kept being boring by mid game.

Then Firaxis comes by and literally plagiarized the entire game. It’s the exact same thing down to the core mechanics. I’m amazed they haven’t gotten sued by the Humankind devs, but maybe they worked out a deal. The whole Civ VII thing just reeks of laziness.

I keep forgetting this game came out. I guess it was bad as no one’s really talking about it as much as people talked about civ 6.

I got my start with civ 5.

I’ve played every single Civ game well past the time its successor was released, and at some point have always eventually moved on.

Now, after obsessing as Peter on Pangea map with Critical Thinking as my entertainment based religion, I’m realizing I may not update this time. Ever.

The next version sounds absolutely lousy. I may just go back and start regressing - although I’m not sure I could find copies earlier than 4. I still have 5 and 6 on active machines.
