Jon Stewart, who normally hosts the Monday edition of "The Daily Show," will host on Thursday, presumably to address the Jimmy Kimmel suspension.

Genuinely asking, has he refrained from saying such? I swear I’ve heard him saying it prior to even this last election but I could be wrong

he has. he said his reason is that he doesn’t want to diminish the impact of the word.

i both agree with you and with him. he also expressed that there’s plenty of other people calling this a turn to fascism and he doesn’t want to dismiss any of them because he thinks there wrong, but he also doesn’t want to give the fascists what they want by feeding hopelessness. like. it’s not the path i would take, but i don’t see it as a wrong path

Same reason people are shy to admit this is now a dictatorship.

He flat out chastised those doing so. I don’t know if he’s finally come around, but that seriously diminished him in my eyes forever more. When his country desperately needed a unified voice to react the infant stages of a fascist government, he chose to rebuke the criticisms and take the side of “wait until it’s too late”. Now that his buddies are feeling the heat, now he decides it’s too much. Fuck that.

EU still considers it a democracy. Can’t claim “political persecution” yet, they’re not gonna take your political asylum application seriously.

Fascism and democracy can coexist, at least temporarily. I agree we’re still a very flawed democracy… for now.

Name a Fascist state with democratic elections once the Fascists were voted in.

Eh, I’d say its a hybrid regime tbh.

Flawed democracy was trump term 1. (It was also flawed before, but less so compared to trump term 1)

After Jan 6, 2021, it was a very flawed democracy.

          Now, its hybrid regime.

By 2028, its possible we spiral into a full authoritarian regime.

(Btw, your article is from 2024 before the election lol)
