Trump and far right populist politicians like him are popular at the moment because they legitimise hatred. Many people around the world are angry and miserable; far right populism is like the baby dummy of political ideology and gives these people something or someone simple to hate and make themselves feel better for a few hours. Of course, none of this ever actually gets to the real reasons why they’re unhappy, but they’re too stupid to realise that.

They see him as someone who finally made it acceptable again to say all the bigotry that they had to keep to themselves after years of suffering under a society that was pushing woke values. They see him as a hero that is taking the country back to the good old days and putting the undesirables away.

Sure there might be financial blow back that makes them angry, but the ideologies pushed override that and they will support him or the next leader that is bringing the country closer to their idea of paradise that has the right type of people and beliefs.

They don’t like him in the way you think they like him.

They see him as an extension of themselves, and that they don’t like Seth Meyers, so whatever he does to punish or hurt Seth is ok with them, because that’s also what they want.

Their para-social relationship with Trump has made them believe that he’s one of them, or vice versa, when the truth is he’s never worked an honest day in his life and he would take joy in watching over half of Americans die for his bruised ego.
