I don’t even need to beat kids myself. I just tell them they aren’t a REAL gamer until they beat Battletoads on original hardware. Then they look confused because they never heard of Battletoads. That’s when I break out my original NES from my 1980s childhood, and Battletoads, TMNT, and Ghosts N Goblins. Original hardware. No save states, no rewind, no crutches of any kind. I don’t even bring game genie, or explain what that is.

I play Mario Kart with my nephews over Christmas. I have to work really hard to not roflstomp them and even then I’ll still accidentally win from time to time because they keep running into banana peels in battle mode.
I tried playing nice, but they started talking shit and I had to regulate…
My eight year old niece has been playing coop with me, and any time I wait to let her do a thing she goes “I did it! You’re terrible at games, I’m the best!” and I am tempted to go wild to recover my rep.
She also keeps holding onto me at the wrong times in Heave Ho and Unravel Two causing us both to die, then turning in fury “Why did you do that!? You killed me!”
Next christmas I bust out mario kart.
10 year old said to me “I heard you used to be a gamer”, so I had to pwn his ass in Mario Kart, just on principle.
