Sometimes, you turn out to be holding the reins of another person’s emotional state, whether they’ve been formally handed to you or not. That’s life, that’s growing up, that’s a reason to be excellent to each other.

Of course, romance isn’t the only – maybe not even the main – example. This might be most common in a boss / underling relationship. More bosses should take this to heart.

It was their job not to give you those in the first place, and it’s not anybody’s job to bend over backwards over that fuckup.

Community is uncomfortable; when you’re dealing with other people there’s no way to avoid getting mixed up in each others’ emotional states at least a little bit. Even with this comment that you made and I’m now responding to, we’ve given each other a small spot in our emotional space for the day, and it’s our responsibility to at least take that fact into consideration. You don’t have to be nice, but if you want to interact with people, even online, you’ll find more success if you think about their feelings as much as your own.

The joke is literally about the juxtaposition of boys and men in their approach and the response from girls and women. The joke only works because it hits exactly the nail that the parent comment wrote out.

        I don’t know, I think it’s a pretty common refrain.

Maybe not common in progressive social media circles.

Behavior of a Creep. Please behave better. Woman are people first not whatever the society make you think they are. May be women wouldn’t react this way if 90% of the people asking them out were not met in the last week. Start by becoming friend and may be one day without garanty you may fell for each other or not and you have a friend. Win win

Yeah, sorry, I got some friend which got hurt by people saying this exact thing. I reacted emotionally. You know I was raised by women and got a daughter and discovered the treatment done to girl then women this is still hurting. I didn’t knew what a little layway is used to justify really bad behaviors. But I may have over reacted, did you mean that as a joke in a joke ? I mean with the context of the European and the us society, this can be understood as saying that women complain about not getting asked when they reject people. Or it can be understood as remarking that the girl/women is doing normal stuff and is getting proposed like this ? Which is it ? Do you know in the dating world the men and women don’t have the same experience at all. I hope it changed but it look like no. Men have rare occasion which push some men to jumping at each opportunities making people inconfortable and women got proposed often and can’t know if people are opportunistic and got proposed often.

So sad. I recently found a box containing papers from my high school days. I had completely forgotten about a binder full of notes that were passed back and forth in Grade 11 & 12. The angst. The infatuation. The cringe. And after reading this comment, so grateful I grew up Gen X. May have seemed an awful and unfair time when I was young but at least it wasn’t this awful.

Put it in my pocket, put it in my pocket, in my back pocket, put in my pocket, in my pocket, in my back pocket.

Blonde kid gets note, returns letter back to redhaired kid.

Edit: but really, who gets what doesn’t matter as much as the order.

Kid A gives note to kid B, kid B returns note to kid A.

Oh yeah, I actually thought it was the other way around, but that makes more sense. Doesn’t matter for the joke, though.
