It’s better than it used to be. When I was in elementary school I heard the “War of Northern Aggression” as an alternative name. But by the time we were covering history in middle and high school no one called it that.

I think you’d maybe still find some teachers saying that in the most rural parts of the state, but it’s definently lessened.

However, things are getting worse in other ways. Wouldn’t be surprised if they start bringing back Jim Crow

Except I was in school from about 2000 to 2020 (slightly increased range not to dox myself).

        So yeah.

Do you live in the South or are you reliant on media depictions and lemmy?

I mean look at Georgia. The state flipped blue and voted for Biden. Abrams a black woman nearly became governor within 1%. I know it’s not a win, but even coming that close was unthinkable for most of my life. Currently both Senators are democrats too. I never once thought that would be possible.

Of course with Trump 1 and 2 it’s become worse and is definently sliding back. I definitely feel like the worse people have become emboldened and no longer fear repercussions (because there are none).

Growing up it felt 70% Republican 30% not. Now it’s near 50/50 but it seems as that gap closes some things got better and other things got worse. I think it’s Republicans clawing for power and willing to support the worst shit to make that possible.

All the confederates should have been shipped to Africa for being traitors and as reparations for slavery.
