Apparently fluid or gas filled blisters are a sign of it. Had those in the area around an insect bite a few weeks ago. Initially swollen then the swelling went down and the blisters formed around the bite area.

Not sure if that was a flesh eating bacteria or something like it or not, but it went away on its own after a week or so. Got to a few cm across at the worst point.
