The average CEO of the US’s 100 largest, lowest-paying corporations earned 614 times more than their average worker last year, according to an analysis by the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS).
IPS’s latest executive excess report analyzed compensation at the 100 S&P 500 corporations with the lowest median worker pay. Between 2019 and 2025, CEO compensation increased 41.4%, unadjusted for inflation, twice as much as the median worker pay increased at these firms during the same period, at 20.7%.
Inflation also outpaced worker pay increases, rising by 25.9%.
The CEO-to-worker pay ratio at the low-wage 100 firms increased 8.4% between 2019 and 2025.
…
I have an idea

"The average CEO of the US’s 100 largest, lowest-paying corporations earned … "
‘Earned’. They worked a fiftieth as hard as their lowest-paid workers.
I’ve always known that the idea of CEOs being compared to elite athletes was utter bullshit, but seeing fElon supposedly running SIX companies puts the lie to that notion. Even if he never slept, he’d be working 28 hours MAX per company. That’s not enough hours to even qualify for benefits for us hoi polloi. But fElon is special.
Meanwhile, many companies won’t even let typical plebes moonlight on their own time for another company…but someone like fElon can operate six.
Also, many of these motherfuckers sit on the boards of other companies, too. But you plebes: no moonlighting, that might violate something about your “loyalty” to the company!
Just did the math, and my CEO only made 25x as much as me last year. But that’s not counting the stock he was given, because that’s not actually income, apparently.
Henry Ford was somehow able to squeak by on 50x his worker’s base salary.
That, to me, would be a perfect cap on pay; also, all employed should have shares in the company in my opinion.
Every limit is arbitrary, such is life. Sadly, as it is now, “no limit” is obviously not working, they just rape more workers every year with no end in sight, their greed is boundless.
The stock market never should have been a thing to begin with.
Yes we get it. I don’t know why these has to be bothered as news.
The rich aren’t living in fear so it will bear repeating.
Off with their heads
CEOs don’t ‘earn’ a cent. It’s all stolen.
Well they work 614 times harder and smarter. They are irreplaceable!
About time this had an update: https://xkcd.com/980/
Imagine preparing a group presentation for class. One designs the slides and illustrations, one does research, one some hands-on stuff, and one coordinates, plans and manages the group.
The presentation is a success. But the one who managed got the best grade, while the others got medium or bad grades.
Doesn’t seem fair, or does it?
This is capitalism in its current form.
Everyone contributes to the success of the project, company, institution. Everyone depends on each other for it, so the value of labour is rather evenly distributed. But for some arbitrary reason, those at the top just skim the profits that is generated by those beneath them, instead of distributing fairly.
There are companies that do it differently. With success. For example, https://www.wired.com/story/safetywing-remote-work-equal-salaries/
Let’s keep aiming for this change.
im surprised its so small. Is it including all compensation? I would like to see a 100x maximum wage. Higher ups of all types should be trying to figure out how to get the lowest paid more pay so that they can raise their own.
And this is the average.
