I’m talking like the local paper that gives out free copies at every coffee shop and corner store.

See, I got a new neighbor, two doors down, and he’s a RSO.

But the only articles about his arrest and conviction are in a small town newspaper, and they want $83/yr for me to be able to read this article. From two years ago.

I know that sometimes RSO lists can be bullshit. Is this guys charge bullshit? I have no way of knowing. Nor do I have any way of knowing if my kids are his target demographic.

The only other thing I could find was his sister and parents sueing him for custodial rights over his kids following a DV call…Which makes me think his victims were his own kids (so statistically unlikely to attack a neighborhood child, especially once everyone is onto him), or that it’s all made up family drama.

I just want to know what I’m dealing with. Wtf. Why does everything need to be paywalled?

$83 subscription for online access to a free local paper is insane.

Check with your local library. They often maintain subscriptions or have an archive of local newpapers.

You just brought me back in time to honors history in highschool where I needed to go to the historical society library and had to use their microfilm to get stuff from an old newspaper.

I wonder if they still have microfilm now, or even put new papers onto it. It seems so archaic nowadays.

I remember a librarian telling me they were slowly moving from microfiche to network storage, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that there’s plenty of microfiche left collecting dust.

Imo it is either a $83/year local paper or a free local newspaper. They can’t have it both ways if you ask me.

Journalists need to be paid, same as everyone else. Especially in small towns with small resources. These are the kinds of things to support imo.
