American, my family only speaks English, but my teacher was talking about India’s 22 official languages and how they vary by region. He also talked about English kind of uniting them and being the common language for communication and how this couple had a man and a woman from different regions who both spoke English.


My dad’s side of the family is all native French and default to speaking that. I grew up with my English mum though so I didn’t learn it. It makes family gatherings on that side a bit awkward since I’ll just be sitting there trying to parse what everyone is talking about
